Let's take a simple example of why it's not worth bothering with them...

We'll pretend I've never met you, or anyone from AWOL, and I've not met Billy or anyone from Ruffneck, all I know about either is what I've seen on VD ... I get a phone call from one of my mates who works as a stunt co-ordinator for films and TV. They're shooting a scene for James Bond Casino Royale (yes, they've finished filming now but it's a perfect example because my friends did do the stunts on it) where Bond comes riding through a street stunt scene ala the Ace Cafe. Now, there isn't a single person on the Stunt Register who can 12 a bike, do circle wheelies etc. (this is true, too, barring about three guys they're all moto-cross riders, and those three guys are only at the stage of just finding the balance point, rolling small stoppies and doing basic doughnuts) so they need a handful of people in the scene to do the job. You get close to £400 just for turning up - each day! And it's rarely just one day's work... - then at least another £1000 to do the stunt itself.

Who am I going to recommend? Who am I going to put my reputation on the line for? I've been asked in the past to recommend riders so it's a damn good example.

Or someone asks one of their bike riding mates if they know anyone who can put on a stunt show at their event. If it's not a bike event then you're looking at a minimum on £2500 for the day. Who is that person going to recommend? If they're on VD what is going to be their one and only impression of the two teams they've heard of?

Word of mouth can make someone's career - it can also kill that same career stone dead.

The general biking world don't care about stunting. To the vast majority of them we're just ****wits on stolen bikes who have absolutely no talent - no better or different to joyriders in nicked cars. And what does the scene do to change that image? Goes onto non-stunt sites then *****es about them not liking stunts. How's that any different to someone coming on here and telling us we're all ****s because we like stunting and not what their passion is? And worse still is that most of the people on that site aren't anti-stunt anyway - but they are sick to death of having stunting rammed down their throats.

There are some real arseholes on that site, but they're not worth destroying your own image and reputation over by reacting to their bullshit.
I think that deserves a sticky.

I know that you won't say you can do something if you can't; you will do what the stunt co-ordinator tells you rather than trying to tell him his job; you won't get gobby or arrogant; you won't put someone else's life at risk by trying to show off. Quite simply, you'd act in a professional manner and I'd trust you not to let me down ... unlike Craig Jones, who I guarantee will never see another major movie set again after his 'performance' on Lara Croft.

Well, let's just say he didn't show the professional attributes I've just accorded Sparks.

And, as he was doubling the delectable Jolie for a bike stunt, he did it all while dressed as Lara Croft.
