Need help wheeleing my kfx 400..
My problem is that i cant hold a wheelie for my life i maybe keep it up for like 5 feet at max on a good day
.. Iv done numerous searches on this and other sites and have seen others say to use the brake and pop the clutch for maximum control but i cant seem to get it.. Every time i pop the clutch i either stall it out or i come up to high and 12 o clock it, im not afraid of doing a 12 iv done it on purpose many times just to lose the fear but my grab bar is taking a wicked beating , and when i come up to high and use the brake it goes right down and if i gas it enough to keep it up i end up going so fast that if i fall im gonna do some damage!! The only way i can keep it up without doing a 12 is to slow up and nail it in 1st bring it up lean foward but without using the brake(i guess) it comes down after 5 feet or less.. I need some serious schooling , and im trying to practice as much as possible but using the clutch to get it up and brake to maintain just arent working i either 12 it or bring it down PLEASE HELP!!!

Well....just a couple points to remember. 1st gear is a little bit harder to learn distance wheelies in when you are first starting out because it's very touchy, and easy to run out of RPM's because of all of the throttle changes. The upside to it, like you said, is that you are not going very fast and it helps eliminate any fear of crashing bad. Because of that, it's probably going to take you longer to learn nice, smooth, controlled wheelies in 1st gear.
The key is to stay smooth with the throttle....if you aren't smooth you are either going to end up on the grab bar, or run out of power. The most common thing people learning wheelies do is "chop" or "blip" the throttle. The higher gears are a little more forgiving when you do that because you aren't dealing with as much torque when getting on the throttle, or as much engine braking when letting off....therefore you don't have to be quite as smooth.
My advice....either way you do it....Learn to use your brakes right away. Make it a natural reaction.
