I have asked this before
Sorry guys for the repetition but I cant remember nor can I find the thread....
Awhile back I made a thread asking about the starter on the Raptor.
All it does is spins when you try to start it so we have to pull start it and jump it off that way. It doesnt make any "catching" sounds or anything like that but you can hear the spinning. What was "possibly" wrong with it again and how much will it cost or will it be best to get a new starter?
We were going to put a different motor in there but I think he just wants a regular raptor motor again. But whatever comes up thats a good deal I guess he'll get. He's already rebuilt it once.

Re: I have asked this before
Take the starter off and see if the gears are stripped. If not see if you can see the gears inside the engine from in the starter hole and see if they are stripped. He really shouldn't have to rebuild a 4 stroke engine this often. He needs to stop doing something he's doing to keep braking it. Also if it turns out to be the starter I'd like to know how the **** he stripped the gears on it. Hope that helps...
Re: I have asked this before
he puts this thing thru hell for one and stunts it for another.....
Im not sure what the deal it...it WAS working fine and then the next time he tried to take it out it wouldnt start it just spins....someone said the pin (?) could have broken or poped out??? Im not real sure a few people that Ive aksed before gave me some good tips....hopefully they'll reply again. Thanks for yours as well...

Re: I have asked this before
Just doesn't make sense. I'm a quad guy and have never heard of a starter doing that. Sure they have died but not spun and not catch. Stunting is not hard on a quad, it is on the clutch though. I'm not flaming him but I raced MX for 3 years and noone ever beat on their quad hard enough to have the starter go. So take it for what it's worth, but I would just yank the starter out it probably only 4 bolts...
Re: I have asked this before
Tara if you guys cant figure it out and decide to take it to a shop ... call Bullet Motorsports 903-612-4300 the only thing is they are in Sulfur Springs and I know that may be a drive for you guys..... call them and talk to them though and tell em I sent you... if you need help getting it there if that is what you decide let me know.... shop is good and reasonable on prices... owner races pro TT and main mechanic you will talk to would be Brad and they work on all the race quads pretty much in the North Texas area..... I have taken my quad there several times always good....
Re: I have asked this before

Re: I have asked this before
ummmm that I really dont know. The place we took it to said it was BRAND NEW (but they have dicked us around before) so Im sure its refurbed. I saw a brand new starter on ebay for 125. Didnt know if it would better to get a whole new one or just try and fix this one....yanno
Re: I have asked this before
Easiest place to start is to just yank out the starter. If you are brave put the starter in a vice and use a battery charger to give it juice to if it works how it's supposed to. This is how they do it in auto stores.

Re: I have asked this before
thats what I was thinkin, but also maybe a pin broke inside the starter since it just spins? Everything sounds right as far as the starting except for the spinning its not catching.
I wanted to see if I could get a better idea of what it could be before I really yanked it out cause I didnt want it to be down for awhile as we were trying to fix this...find the problem yank it out and then fix it...but we may have too. (he has shitty hours at work) thanks guys for your help...any other ideas is appreciated.

Re: I have asked this before
The one way will just sit and spin if its broken. The motor will be turning over and everything will be normal but it just wont be spinning the crankshaft over.
Go to www.bluetraxx.com and go to teh forums and search for one way bearing in the raptor forum...its a very known problem.
