Suzuki Z400 Valve setting

My friend just bought a 02 KFX400 ( its a Z400 with green fenders ).

The Quad is making clacking(sp?) noise when running.

Seems like we need to set the valves, anyone knows how much we need to tighten them? Or maybe there's other stuff we should check first, like the timing chain tension?

Thanks for help,

Alain

As far as I know, you can't adjust the valves by tightening them. You need to check the clearance at the cam lobe and you adjust it by putting in spacers.

Yea u can but a set its kinda like pocket knives but they come in different thickness and you slide it in theere and tighten it down so that the spacer can move out with a little rubbing
