wheelie

hokay here goes...whenever i wheelie, i usually put it in second gear and get it into high rpms. then i punch it and the front lifts up, the only problem is, that im scared to let it keep going, or shifting into 3rd because i think itll tip back. i was wonderin if there are any easier ways to ride wheelies, and or get them up in the air. also, are stand up wheelies on quads easier than sit downs?

Stand ups are easier on quads, if i were you to get use to shifting pout ur right leg on the wheelie bar and keep the left leg by the shifter, pop the clutch and practice shifting, after a little while u should be able to do sit downs

that is a must.....

best way to learn...start in 1st at a dead stop......left foot on grab bar right foot on break..... standing up ......always one foot on break when learning.......or you can try sitting down keep your foot covering that break...anyway from the deadstop pull clutch in...rev up....pop the clutch....comes right up...get use to hitting the back break so you get the feeling down....after you got the back break down to where it feel natural to use the back break in a wheelie...move on to where the bike goes as high as it can without flipping over......if you really want to you can let it fall back a few times to see how high it can go.....when you start knowing the point of falling back hit your breaks before you fall back....now you have break control onto riding it out......when you have it up as high as it can go without going over hit the break but before it comes down ...give it more gas..and hit the break again so you dont flip it....give it some more gas and your riding realize your riding it out further then you have ever gone CONGRATS!!!.....throttle control will have to come to you with practice....and thats all it takes is practice and more practice...dont be afraid of going over in 1st gear just hang on and you will be fine.....dont try 3rd gear or higher until you have the feeling of wheelies down to it feels natural.....good luck and if you have anymore questions figure it out yourself....JK.......just ask and i or someone else will be glad to answer for you

If you get use to the balance point of your bike you will not have to shift because you can ride a wheelie at the same speed as long as there is room. I usualy do them in 3rd on my rappy then hold them as long as i like but the balance point at first can be a little scary because you are right on the edge of fliping. And get in the habbit of covering the brake it can save your a**. I learned stand ups on my street bikes so a quad is a piece of cake.

Hazen is a decent person
Everything these guys said is right. The rear brake it the key, followed closely by throttle control. It comes with experience. Best way to learn is to try. Slow stuff first. But most of all.....

DONT BE SKURRED!!!!!!
Goodluck.

Re: wheelie

How come all u guys pop the clutch? I dont need to do that at all, unless i want to. I just go in like 2nd or 3rd, and slow down a lil bit, then gas it and she stand straight up. Its really easy for me, i never use the clutch unless i shift. I have a z400 BTW...

then your not riding slow wheelies......pop it in 1st gear from dead stop and you can get really technical with tricks....i also have a z400 and i can bring the wheels up without the clutch in an gear up to 3rd......try riding a 1st gear wheelie a 1/4 mile...and see how many tricks you can do before you get to the end.
