Wouldnt you want to turn it on PRI to stop the gas instead of ON ?

U clamp it u will foul plugs like a baitch too. My dirtbike (a 2 stroke) would foul plugs cause the float bowl was off by 2 mm. The overflow keeps it at a stdy lvl and if it gets over it will foul plugs and eventualy flood the motor. Run and extra large tup back to the tank

No.

It needs to be on "ON" or "RES" to stop the gas. If the valve handle is horizontal, it is on PRI and gas will leak out til' there is none in the tank. Well if the bike is on it's side or at 12' anyways. If the bike is level on the ground it shouldn't overflow unless your float is adjusted incorrectly.

PRI or Prime is used to fill the float bowl with gas when the motor isn't running. The fuel on the Z is vacuum activated. When the motor is running, a vacuum is applied to the petcock and fuel will flow into the bowl. when the motor is off and the petcock is NOT on PRI, it won't flow any gas. This is normaly not a problem because the float bowl is full of fuel anyways.

Say you drain your bowl though, or the bike is upside down for awhile though so the bike is off and there is no fuel in the bowl and the bike is off. If the valve was just on ON, you would have to crank it for quite some time before it starts. So you put it on PRI or PRIME which bypasses the vacuum activation and sends gas to the carb regardless of a vacuum signal.

I don't think I'm explaining this very well....

but anyways, PRI stands for PRIME which is used to start the bike when the float bowl is empty.

So if the motor is not running, you would want to keep in on ON. RES is like a reserve for ON right? Say if you ran outta gas in the tank, you would want to put it on PRI before you start it after you fill it with gas?

I got a suzuki for now and it has the same system and i never have figured it out..i think i got it right now

Thanks bill,
Ross
PS: Hows the dvd coming?

Yup, that's what PRIme is for!

Not quite sure what we are doing on the DVD..... We could just make a dvd of all our current videos, but I don't know if anyone would buy that. We are looking into buying a real nice camcorder and shooting some footage this winter/summer and editing it in the fall.... Who knows
