So were you able to use 5/8" rod on the EX? How long a length did you use?

Yup, 5/8 and I used 18 inches with no prob. 1 difference I did do though was instead of grinding an angle I put the plat on the ground and stood the bike up at 12 and laid the rods in the middle of the plate and tacked it.

I rounded 1 side off in the pic, it was like 34 outside and my garage isn't heated so i called it a day.

Looks good..im assuming you basically followed the same techinque as bill?
Thats what ill prolly do..im gettign either a new Z or a new 400ex.

How did the 5/8 rod fit?

Fit good, you obviously don't want something that slides right in but at the same time you don't want it to stress the frame. 5/8 works good for z,kfx,dvx, an EX so far.
