I think the Raptor is an OK MX quad. Its high and has a high center of gravity so it was hard for me to keep all 4 wheels down. I'm a newbie though so dont go by my experiences alone, as you too are a newbie. I have no idea about the 12s but someone told me that a Raptor is the best quad to stunt because of the power.

Hazen is a decent person
A 400EX is better than a raptor on an mx track. Better geometry for racing. The Raptor has a high center of gravity and unusable power.
A z is a liquid cooled 400EX with reverse.
Never had one but I hear that when put at 12 the raptor stalls.
For stunting a Z or EX are your best choices.

The Raptor will stall out if 12'd because the fuel will flood I think the carbs. When I clean it and stand it up I have to turn the fuel **** off. (No homo)
