just traded my rappy for a 400ex , but i noticed 400ex's lose a lot of gas from overflow. whenever im ridin idle it leaks a lot, anyone just plug up the overflow line or move it to help? i only rode it about 5 minutes so far but im gonna try and get some video of it up when i get back from school next week

sounds like the floats in the carb might be stuck. the overflow is there to prevent the float bowl from overloading on gas, thus having nowhere to go, than your engine. the run-off lets the extra escape (normally in a 400ex at any inclines close to 12 o'clock!) so you do not flood your engine. If while riding at low rpm's on flat surface it is leaking, that tells me your floats are not working properly. The are telling your fuel inlet, "Hey, we don't have any gas in here. Keep it coming." And your run-off is saying "the fock we don't, get this extra fuel the heck outa here!"

p.s.- or possibly frozen... if you think this is your problem, run some iso-heet thru the gas, and put it in a warm garage for the night. see if that helps. If not, get ready to tear your carb out and remove the float bowl. It will prolly be very evident what the problem is once u pull the bowl...

Most of my gas ends up on the ground when i ride and does not go through the engine, if i stunt all day and dont ride trails i waste alot of gas. plus on 400ex the engine dies out when you slow it down to much and it is annoying and hurts sometimes when it stalls out

 

aight so its just normal than.... i guess ill just buy more gas, no biggie

 

if it is leaking jus idling like u say, that is not normal, unless you mean while in a wheelie, idling...???

 

get a bottle holder off of a mountain bike put it on your swingarm. then put a bottle with a hole drilled in the top for the hose

definitly gunna wanna rebuild that carb, gunna go with stuck float on this one it so hard to tell with those cause usually a stuck float will fatten a motor up real bad to where it doesnt wanna run but those things are notorious for pucking

 

no i meant idle wheelies... like ifi do a wheelie slower than 5mph it leaks, if i do NH's or coasters its a lot worse- nothing huge though

yea the only reason i asked this question was because how much gas i lose... its a pretty good amount. my friends 400 doesnt leak much but his is stock... the 440 kit must drain my gas a tad faster

 

More CC's = more air and gas to fill it! 440 kits are the shisnit :YEAH
My 450 can hardley hang with my buddies 440 and I've got the best of everything you can get on mine and his is crunchy *** ****

 

heh yeah I can trail ride my ex all day long on a tank of gas but do a dozen decent wheelies and 1/2 a tank is gone.

It may be retarded, but I'll prob. end up doing it myself sooner or later.
