400/300EX Info Needed

The Girlfriend and I are picking up a pair of 400Ex's, she may get a 300ex , for the reverse... (I know the 05 400's have reverse) but were looking for a 2002-2003 area... so are there any known problems to look out for? (with either model? ) any years better than others? I'm going to stunt/trailride she's just going to trail ride (for now)
Are the 300x's good for stunting? Thanks!

If its badged Honda .. reliability is of no concern

Re: 400/300EX Info Needed

Thanks for the replys sofar... so I guess the queston is now how do the two machines compare as far as suspension? Is the 400 suspension really that much better.... ? (this is for trail riding, I dont want to be dusting her on a trail just due to her having a rough ride... )

The 400ex has about 2 more inches of suspension travel than the 300, but both are awesome for trails. If she couldn't keep up I bet it'd be cause of the power and weight difference (the 300 is every bit as heavy as the 400).

You'll be "A" okay with your decision, just try and make shure it's not one that anyone in here has previously owned

Re: 400/300EX Info Needed

if you plan on jumping the 400 or even the 300 the rear shocks if your around 190lbs and if you hit big jumps id consider putting a new rear shock on it works or even a fox shock (alot cheaper than an elka or custom axis) but the stock will work plenty fine for trails and stunting just tighten it up a little!!

peace out

Re: 400/300EX Info Needed

my fiance prefers thumb throttle to twist, for trails, i got her to ride mine with the twist and told her to try a jump and she almost hit a tree,
girls seem to do better with thumb
me i prefer twist

oh and make your she knows how to use the clutch, when in doubt pull in the clutch

if you are trail riding where there are alot of big puddles maybe a 4x4 quad my be better for her, i can't stand when she gets stuck in a middle of a puddle, and i have to wade through it and try to get her out

Not yet... we did decide that we both will be getting 400ex's though.....we arn't in any perticular hurry and want to find some nice non-raced ones... I dont like the race cut plastic that seems to be the rage on a lot of the used ones I've looked at..
