Getting the hang of this Quad Stuff
Getting the hang of this Quad Stuff
getting them up, finding the ballance point, got some sit downs and seat stands. Just trying to get that thumb control to steady it out. I am really diging trail riding also, somthan you cant do on street bikes.

And I found the thumb throttle easier to be smooth with. Just got my first quad last year and I already feel better on that then a bike. Registered User

Re: Getting the hang of this Quad Stuff
Ive ridden snowmobiles most of my life and Ive owned a few ATVs, but never a bike. I personally dont see why anyone would want a twist throttle. I guess its all in what you like...

It's addicting as hell you'll see
:YEAH Re: Getting the hang of this Quad Stuff
riding the quad is definitely addicting, been riding my quad more than the street bike, quad i can practice almost every day, if i am up to it
i opted for a twist throttle and am never going back to thumb
i want to transfer over to be streetbike what i have learned easier and keep it as close to the street bike controls as i can
see i started on a quad fifteen years ago and got used to the thumb throttle, then i a dual sport (on/off road dirtbike) which had twist and was almosted tempted to change that to thumb but there were no conversion kits for it, so i had to just get used to twist
now i am used to it and i dont feel like going back
i dont see any streetbikes with thumb throttle, which would kinda be neat to see

picture yourself transitioning from one stunt to another on a street bike with a thumb throttle and hitting it with your knee. Might end up a pretty ugly scene. Who know's, might also get some different tricks going.
Alright, who's gonna be the test rat?

Re: Getting the hang of this Quad Stuff
i can't remember what kind i got, i let my mechanic friend pick it out and put it on for me,
the only trouble i had with it, is when i crashed and flipped it a couple of times, it got sand and dirt in the twist part and would stick at full throttle, then when i was wheeling and it stuck i couldnt pull in the clutch fast enough and broke my scrape bar off. but to fix that problem, i cut the end of the bar off on the throttle side and made it an 1/8 shorter and spray it with WD40 every now and then and it works like a charm now!
just always be ready to pull in the clutch, the clutch is your main safety device in a wheelie or other stunts, then the back brake
like doing a wheelie with the quads, i pull it up just before the balace point pull in the clutch, and try to get the quad to come to a full stop with out moving and keep it perfectly balance without it touching the scrape bar
then i just push my body forward letting the bike come down, let out the clutch and start going and then try to come to a stop again, and keep doing that over and over again, until i either go back too far or give too little gas and land
everybody always forgets to mention clutch control, they always talk about throttle or brake control, you practice with your clutch enough you dont have to even hit the back brake!

Re: Getting the hang of this Quad Stuff
I rode my friend's pit bike yesterday, and I *REALLY* dont like a twist throttle. Perhaps its just 'cause Im not used to it, but I much prefer a thumb throttle.
