i have a good solution,

1. cut the grab bar off, and insert a solid pipe inside the hollow subframe, to make it stronger so it wont bend.

2. weld the grab bar back on, make sure the sold pipe runs to the end of the grab bar

3. weld 1/2 flat stock steel to the end of the bar to grind on.

done, ive hit the concreet hard, and the subframe holds up very well.

Here's something for you guys to think about:

Use 3/4" or thicker flat bar for the scraping part of the bar.
add the flat br you've talked about already, except drill two holes in it. Then drill holes in the second piece of flat bar and thread 'em. Now you've got a sacrificial piece that you can replace without having to rebuild the rear end of the quad.

Hazen is a decent person
Try modulating the brakes and throttle a little bit more to ease the bar down. I've done 12's all day long on my EX, and no bendage. Just gotta be gentle with it.

I think 400EX is one of only a couple bikes that you can not replace the grab bar on, you gotta replace the whole sub frame
