I'd honestly take a well built Quadzilla over a raptor any day. The 'Zillas are far tougher, and more durable than the Raptor ever thought about. In numbers, the Quadzilla should eat the raptor, and likely will, but I've never SEEN a race between them, and finding a magazine article that will compare them will be hard. People used to bitch and whine about the quadzillas being hard to start, or seizing, etc. If you take care of them, mix oil/fuel right, use nylon buttons for circlips, oil and clean the chain, they should last forever. One of the guys on our team claims he can launch all 4 tires off the ground from a dead stop.

The Raptor. Big hunk of junk. Front end is made out of peanut butter, it's heavy, it's unpredictable, and I don't think I'd want to go trail riding with it. Honestly, the best trail rider I can think of off hand is either a higher-geared 230, or a low geared LT250R. The 500 is wide as a boat, the 250 is only slightly wider and longer than the 230, about 10 lbs heavier, and much, much faster.

I've seen engine builders take a piece of high temp nylong, and cut it to fit where the circlips go that hold the wristpin int he piston. When You install the piston and rod back in the cylinder, the nylon will hold the the wrist pin in, and won't let it go anywhere, since there's a cylinder wall to hold it in place. Being nylon, and the little bit of oil on the cylinder walls, it will never erode, and it will keep the main problem the quadzillas had from happening: Popping circlips out and getting them wedged in between the cylinder and the piston. Almost all two strokes have this problem if you don't take care of them, but from my understanding the Quadzilla was the worst.

Again, I've heard people complain before "a 500cc single cylinder, that's nuts!" but yet the raptor's a single cylinder, the CR500 is a single, (I think), and what's the difference between a 500CC single, or a 1000CC vtwin? The quadzilla is a monster, and a performance machine. Added performance means less dependability, which is partially where i think they get their bad reputation from. Personally, if I could afford one, I'd have one right now. They were, and in my opinion, still are the meanest quad on 4 wheels.

The raptor's not a time bomb, though. It's more like plastique. You can play with it, you can set it on fire, just don't drop it.

the quadzilla is a BEAST.

My first raptor - i had a big bore kit w/ a high comp piston, performance cam, bigger valves, valve springs, 5 angle valve job, ported & polished intake & head, exhaust, carbs, air filters. EVERYTHING you could ever imagine. I had NEVER EVER been beat on the thing. I was racing a few machines - dusting them. A quadzilla came up next to me - the F'n guy looked at me, jamed the throttle & walked away like i shut my machine off. Needless to say I bought one.

In my ZILLA, I had a 593cc Big Bore kit w/ a 12:1 piston, shaved Jug & cylinder, Keihn carb, LRD adjustable exhaust, K&N, Reids, Intake spacer. This thing was the HARDEST thing to kick over - When it ran it was such a beast. POW POW POW POW POW POW POW, RING DING DING DING DING. The zilla is a BIG old beast too. Giant goofy fenders & shiit. But, it is the fastest production quad to my knowledge. I had mine built to spec at 75 HP and was said to do about 115+ mph (Never went that fast on that old jalopy, affraid the wheels would fall off) For reference - the raptor has about 36 and is a total piece of crap.

my 2 pennies for the day.
