Long Wheelies///Gears

i got a ? about long wheelies. i got balance point down and pretty good with my throttle control but its like i run out of gear. i see vids of people riding like 4 mile long wheelies.

i can do the one foot on the peg/one foot on the seat wheelie (kilroy or something maybe its called?) and instead of covering the break i place my feet opposite so i can shift and i can ride em forever.

but whenever i do a high chair or combo that involves jumping somewhere where i can't get to the brake, its like by the time i've jumped and landed im outta gear.

any help appreciated. if it helps i gotta 400ex with full exhaust, rev box, airbox lid mod. do you guys switch out sprockets like the big bike boys? thanks in advance fellas

Chad and I both do the same

either shift thru the gears ina sitdown and ride em out or grab 3rd or 4th and just yank it up.. no clutch at all

can ride em for days.. corners too.. proof if needed is in the JT teaser

Hey big fuggin red

It does sound like your using the throttle too mutch to keep your wheelie up.
Try balancing more weight on your left foot in the grab bar and lean forward and back. It wouln't matter how fass or slow your going should be able to ride it as long as u want.
Smaller inputs on the throttle and brake and BALANCE

the proof is in the puddin

Re: Long Wheelies///Gears

Yes, sounds like you are dropping below balance point a little too often, which means you have to use your throttle to get it back up. Meaning eventually you'll run out of RPM's.

There is nothing wrong with dropping below balance point doing long wheelies....it happens for one reason or another because you are concetrating on a lot of things (corners, hills, other obstacles), and/or you can start to get tired. The thing to do is once you notice your RPM's going up a little bit too much, just bring the front end up really high in the balance point, to the point where you can "coast" for a second or two. That will slow the quad down, and drop your RPM's back down where you want them.

Because this technique requires you to push the limits of the balance point, I highly recommend you be in a position where you can grab the brake if needed.

i like to just yank it up in 5th and go.for fast highchairs start slow like 10 15 mph in 3rd gear then clutch it up

Re: Long Wheelies///Gears

If you're truly balanced you shouldn't be runnin outta gear. When I'm on the sand, I just pull it up in 3rd, 4th, or 5th and as long as your balanced you can ride all day, if ya dip past it, a little back break will fix it and throw you right back into it. Should be able to keep the speed constant if it's balanced and only have to worry about steering.

Re: Long Wheelies///Gears

I Dunno...
you should never have to hit your brake in a FAST wheelie... you should rely more on balance and/or the momentum of the bike to keep you on the balance point...
If you are starting to go backwards, let out of the throttle... as you come back into the balance point, get back into it...
If you are truely balanced in the wheelie, and not just powering them out, you should be able to go for miles... you should even be able to slow them down like Phear said, to the point where you can stop them! (if you are REAL good...)
Usually the problem you will have with stopping them,(if you don't have your foot over the shifter) is not being able to give it gas, cuz now you are going 5mph in 5th gear, and unless you like riding the **** out of your clutch, you are bummin...

just my hope it helps...

o, and wear a helmet...

Re: Long Wheelies///Gears

i wasn't really talking about really long wheelies. i can ride fifth gear wheelies for miles without touching brake. but i guess i do need to try pulling them back further and using balance and brake. im gonna try practicing that.

hey everybody thanks for posting up. glad to see a bunch of heads postin up. everybody's helps. i appreciate it.

hey see my Z-- glad to have you back brother.
