Question Street Legal?

How come you cant slap a plate on an ATV and ride it on the street? I mean, they're fast enough........whats the problem. It would be sweet to legally cruise down the road on a four wheeler.

I think Pennsylvania and West Virginia has parts that allow atv's on the road.

The thing to do is contact your states DMV. Vermont's DMV has a website with an email you can send questions too..since we are in a piddly state I'd imagine most other states have that as well. Anyway, buzz 'em and email or give 'em a call and ask. I wrote to our DMV and was told that Quads are not legal to ride here, even with modifications. However believe it or not ATC's (3 wheelers) can be registered if they have DOT tires and proper signals and stuff. Sounds dumb to me, but oh well.

So call your local DMV and find out.

Oh and I do know of one state where they can easily be made legal...Wyoming. I'm sure there are others too. Check out www.dunereview.com for a guys site that does have a street legal Banshee.

In most states once somethings got 4 wheels on it,it must comply with every DOT law.Headlight hight requirements, wheelbase measurements, emmissions and so on.I think the bb movie was a crock o **** just 4 the movie.Dirtwheels magazine used to have street conversion kits in the back,it used to turn your quad into a reverse trike,(one wheel in the back)I believe on trikes you don't have to obide buy every DOT law.

I dont know if this will work but maybe you can take an already existing street legal street bike and convert it into a quad. i have already seen some street bikes with quad rear suspensions
