Black ink problems

I got a kind of weird question. Once in a while, the black ink in my tattoos (I have one on my ankle and one on my lower back) raises up (or puffs up) and itches. It's not any of the color, just the black outlines and black filled in parts. It's not like they are new or anything. They are both almost ten years old. But it drives me nuts. Anyone else have this happen?

Re: Black ink problems

It's not all the time. Actually, it seems to do it when it's humid out (sounds stupid, I know). I do have very sensitive skin......I have red hair, tons of freckles, and can't hold a tan to save my life. I do think the girl went too deep on the one on my back. I did get both of them at a shop, though. It's just once in a while. I just wondered if I was the only one. I ask people with tats all the time, and no one has ever heard of it. I guess I'm just an oddball.

Re: Black ink problems

Thye artist went to deep. I have a gargoyle on my right shoulder and it's the same thing. The artist spent like 4 hours because my skin is so tough and he went in really deep with the ink. I wouldn't worry about it.

Happens to me from time to time. Asked the tattoos artist, and he said it could be a very mild allergy to the vegetable oil in the ink.

Re: Black ink problems

It's kind of weird, because it's not all the black outline and filler ink. It's only certain parts. Like a lumpy part here, lumpy part there, but not everywhere. I don't know. I just wondered..

Re: Black ink problems

I dunno, I'd say that your skin just gets irritated, and puffs up, happens to me sometimes, just throw on some lubriderm and forget about it.

Re: Black ink problems

So I'm not the "odd ball" that everyone keeps calling me!! I have a tattoo on my lower back - tribal design, mostly black with a little purple in the middle - and it happens to me too but only on the top of the tat. My brother also has a tribal band on his arm and it happens to him too, only on the inside though.

Re: Black ink problems

Two of mine do the same thing....everyday right when I get out of the hot shower. Only the outline, not the color. The heavy hand when doing the outline causes scarring under the skin and it doesn't hydrate (take in water)like the rest of the skin around it. Happens in the summer too when it's humid. It's not cancer and we're not going to die...but if you do, I'll cut you open for free and check all of your tatoos for malignancy and we can settle this post once and for all.
