inaccurate oil resivoir reading on the crf450?

So i got a supermoto crf450..Love the bike..runs awsome couldnt ask for much more.. A day ago I noticed my resivoir was reading that my oil was low...sooo I added a little less then half a quart.. When I say it was saying it was low.. I couldnt even see any oil in hte resevoir so I thought it was empty for sure. So I fill it up with oil.. Go out and start riding..Then BOOOM oil starts shooting out of my drainage hose like crazy fast... Im thinking I put too much oil in and my resevoir is inaccurate. Has anyone had any problemdss like this wihtthe 450..any help is appreciatted..thanks

stop riding. drain oil. refill with correct amount of new oil. I cant remeber off the top of my head how much it is, do a google on it.

THere are 2 spots to put oil in the motor, one in the engine, and one in the tranny, maybe you filled the wrong one and overfilled it ??

he's right, check yourself on what you filled. those bikes DONT DUMP OIL period. I run mine vertical and practically upside down all the time. not a drop of oil ever.
Dont risk the damage, get your fluid levels where they should be.

Re: inaccurate oil resivoir reading on the crf450?

if your levels are ok, maybe you have a seal or something that is bad.
my WR250 had a different design, it would spit oil on long wheelies because it carried oil in the frame of the bike, I redesigned the hose to go up the the handlebars, loop just above them, then back down the other side of the bike. kinda of crazy, but oil cant make it up that high, it spits a little out on the long wheelies, then goes back in the engine when I come back down.

There are 2 drain plugs and 2 fill plugs, one for clutch/tranny one for the engine oil. If you drained the tranny and filled the engine, that could be it. Mine doesn't spill any oil out either, and I run it kinda high too.

I dont understand that if it all uses the same oil..what does it matter.....You put the same oil everywhere... Why the **** is it dumping soo much oil out the hoses.. No making any sense

Go back to school, learn to read, then read the responses again, . There are 2 resi's, one for the tranny, one for the engine oil. they take different oil in each one also. Drain them both, fill them with the proper oil to the correct level and you should be good to go. swing by your local dealer and they should be able to brake it down to you.........again.

Re: inaccurate oil resivoir reading on the crf450?

For sure I have no Idea why they split the cases.. And my problem ended up being a seal ythat seperates the two. When I pulled the sseal out it looked fine...put a brand new one in and no oil leakage I havent had any problems with it sincer so dont jinx me! Ivew been riding honda my whole life and have never had a problem... So far soo good for the exception of the seal and new clutch cover gasket

Ive ridden a few kfxxss.... I think they won 450 of the year in 06 so I wouldnt doubt you got a nice bike.. $ gearss though ha?? I have a 5 spd tranny but im geareed up some so the gears are shorrrt and sweet...until I hit 5th gear.. I get half of my speed in 5th.. from like 55to 99mph in 5th gear alone. I also stripped the rear blinkers .. I like the bike..FUN TO RIDE
