YZ450F help

Hi, Im wanting to buy a YZ450F right off the showroom floor and make it street legal. What all do I need to do to make it legal? I know I need street tires, head light, and blinkers. I think getting the blinkers and the brake lights setup isnt gonna be easy if its even possible to do with a motocross bike like that or not. So im just wondering how much money and work is gonna take to make a yz450F street legal. I really want a YZF-R1 but I cant afford the insurance on that ****.

Re: YZ450F help

Why don't you buy the WR450F, register it and change the things you want more YZ like ;-)

Would be much cheaper and easier!

Re: YZ450F help

check your DMV. Personally I would call one in another county that way you dont tip them off when you try it in yours. In some states all you have to do is have a cop inspect it and sign off. Of course it has to have blinkers, mirrors and lights. The wr has a wide gear ratio which in my opinion would be better for a daily street bike. Meaning longer life.
The yz is a race bike . I would think the life would be a little less riding on the street than a wr.

In Florida you cant make it street legal no matter what you do. They look at the MSO which states OH meaning off highway vehicle. Worst case you can always buy a yamaha frame (title) and tag it the cops will pull up the tag and see yamaha. Do it on a xt225 of a tw200. Put those stickers on there to help out. They will never know the difference.

Hope that helps

Re: YZ450F help

If you want a street supermoto get the WR, it has a wide ratio tranny so you can go faster without revving the **** outa the bike! My CRF450R doesnt do to well at high speeds....

A WR would proble need a new stator to handle lights, you could pick up a light kit from baja designs with turn signals, horn, hi/low beam and everything.

hi, im new here, but ive been around dirt bikes awhile, if you are dead set on a 450, i suggest a wr450, they are more trail bikes so you dont have to go shimming valves and doing top ends so often and they also are the same as the yz450f engine, except for a small comp ratio diff, however, if you are willing to give a little performance, yamaha makes a wr250x that is very nice and comes street legal.
