Nice pics man.
I have a question for you. I'm seriously considering getting one. The only thing is I would have to trade in my 636, and the DRZ would be my only bike. I don't do alot of highway miles but every now and then I do make a 60-70 mile trip. Do you thing the DRZ would be up to something like that? What is your general thoughts on the DRZSM as an only bike? And what kind of performance gain did you get from the mods you put on? I was thinking of Full Exhaust, 3x3 mod, Jet Kit, K&N filter, -2 rear (for the highway) and maybe a set of hot cams & bore kit to come down the road. Thanks for any help.
BTW, What is a DJ kit, some sort of jet kit?

Yo 181,
The bike will be fine for a 50 - 70 mile. Its not no crotch rocket so 90 is about the most she will do. I brok 100 once and that was down hill and took like 5 miles to hit The DJ = Dyno Jet kit is a Better Needle and spring. It also supplies you with a couple of jets and a drill bit to drill out the dealer cover for the fuel screw hole. My bike with all that done is a lot quicker and much louder!! :YEAH :YEAH I really got it to keep me out of serious high speed trouble and still be able to stunt it up.
Ive said it before its like a street legal larger Fiddy I am going to wait untill honda or Suzuki comes out with a real deal 50 + HP Supermoto and then ill buy that. Im not trying to put too much money in this outdated motor. This is the same motor as the DRZ 400S in 2001. Maybe even earlier than that.
Here are my plus'
1. Full Coverage insurance @ 24 yrs old w/ bad record = $500.00 yearly
2. Something different and you can drop it with out with out crying
3. Cheap in maintenance
4. Out handles most sportbikes 60 mph and under
Let me know if this helps,
Richie

Re: DRZ 400SM Plate Scrap !!
Thanks for the help Richie. I almost 100% sure I'm going to do it. I hear what your saying about the bike being kind of an old design and that I shouldn't dump that much $ in to it. I figure I'll limit my mods to $1000. I think I'm gonna go with a full Yosh RS3, Stage 2 Hotcams, 3x3mod, DJkit, K&N filter, base gasket mod, -2 rear sprocket, and some SS brake lines and be done with it. I think with those mods I'll have tons more power over stock and will be able to cruise at 80 pretty comfortably.
I think it'll be a great bike for me. I love ****ing around on 50s & I loved my yz125 so I can imagine how fun this will be. And by next summer I'll have enough to plop down on the new 06 R1 anyways. Later. JP

Yea thats the JEt kit but youll need a different jet depending what you do to the bike. I didnt use one Jet out of the Jet kit. They are not the right size for the 3 x 3 mod and pipe. I used the Stock main jet when you go with the 3x3 mod and pipe. If no pipe u put in a 140. Stock is a 142.5. I had to buy a pilot jet from Jesse @ Kientech.com. He is the **** if you have any questions. Also go to Thumpertalk.com. That is were all the info abou the DRZ is.
181 i would go with a FCR carb like in the KTM's and Hondas. Biggest bang for the buck. !! I only have one problem though. When the bike is at 12 is stalls out now. Soo i am finally rocking coasters :YEAH :YEAH
I heard the FCR carb is not as sensitive at 12 like the stock carb in the DRZ.
Good luck
Richie

Re: DRZ 400SM Plate Scrap !!
I already got rid of my 2004 Gixxer 750 for it.
If you are gonna straight up stunt then the DRZ or a big bike will be fine. But if u want to have a daily driver from work to the stunt spot and not trying to pull 150 MPH runs anymore this is the bike.
I wanted to cool it down but still be able to ride.
Richie Rich ***** !!

yeah most everyone who i know that i talk to on ktmtalk says the fcr carb is awsome, i wish i could motard my ktm 620 but i got no money lol, but the fcr will set you back about 700$ brand new, or you can buy it used for like 400-500, ive looked into it for my 620 and its pretty expensive.
