Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

Running is just plain stupid.... A $100 ticket isnt worth losing a life over..
My buddy 2 weeks ago decided to run from the cops and it didnt work out too well for him... He was on 696 and decided to get off at an exit that isnt too good for high speed. He didnt make the turn, went up the curb at like 100 MPH and hit a sign. The sign came down on his back somehow and basically ripped his spine almost out...
Now he is laying up in the hospital, not getting feeling back in his legs (Doctors say he might) and he ran because he was doing roughly 15-20 over the speed limit....

I will admit, I have ran and I am very thankful that nothing happened. Thank God... As I get older, I start sounding like the old man in our group. But like Drop said, even if I can get into one kids head, I think its worth it....

Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

sorry but...

highways always...
it towns never...

ive been riding streets well over a decade...will i die? maybe, but its just like when you are racing..i dont think as im running..i think of it as a race...and cars/cops are slow for me...running is not for everyone..and if you dont have years of riding experiance...you will die or get hurt or see a jail cell.

i know its stupid..and im not proud of it...im just being honest.

Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

I am not saying running is good or bad...but I will say this: If you run and someone gets hurt or killed....it is YOUR fault and not the cops. If the cops stopped all chases just because someone would get hurt or killed...then all people would have to do is get to that elusive speed and they would be home free. Someone in another thread said something about me not having kids and how would I feel if an out of control cop car killed one of them: Well.....if the moron that was running would have pulled over the cops would not have had to chase them. I do not know how this Ryan kid died....do not know if the cops hit him or he lost control...but plain and simple, you run and you risk the loss of life....thats your problem. Everyone here knows I am NOT a fan of Polic for the most part.....but I do not blame them in any way for doing their job.....there are some good ones out there. If you run and die...its YOUR fault not the cop that tried to stop you.......you break the law...man it up and pay the price.

Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

We can all go back and forth with everyone's view on this situation. Lets face it I have ran from the cops many of times in my younger years, was it right...no, but it was right for the time...I was young, not always making the best decisions, thinking of consiquenses, etc.

Now that I older, wiser and willing to tell anyone I can not to run, because of things/situations like this....Ryan RIP. These things(accidents) only create more victims(family, friends) still living, and dealing with the loses, emptyness, etc, and immediatly want to blame someone.....come on....lets be real here its a game we all play...we get away breaking the LAW(speeding, wheelies) we WIN, the cops pull us over and catch us they WIN...it is your decision to play this game and lose more than the game.....your LIFE.....
My thoughts here by no mean are what happened to RYAN, I do not know the extent of this accident, but I know this is usually how the game is played.....the cops will almost always be willing to play....its their JOB.

We can all go back and forth with this arguement, but lets not place blame of someone doing their job.

Side-note: I just got pulled over(on my bike) on my way to stuntfest back in June in Ohio(home of the ***** state-police), I was doing 109 in a 60mph, yeah I pulled over and the first thing the cop said was "Thanks for pulling over...", I was like no problem, he gave me a ticket(no points) and fine was $109, thats it, I can LIVE with that.

Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

Never ran never will...

I got pulled over 4 times last year for numerous reasons. But I never got one ticket...mostly because most of the time if you have everything legit they let you off i.e. Cycle endorsement, insurance, properplates.

Best thing I have found is just turn off the bike take your helmet off and sit patiently til they arrive. Then answer the questions and wait.

I got pulled over doing 92 in a 35...when I pulled over the cop expressed how shocked he was that I pulled over, to which I replied so am I (jokingly), he asked if I saw him...I said "nope"...he laughed...then asked where I was going...i told him home...then he said "Get there and keep the speed down"

that was it, no ticket, no stress and no problems...hell he could've took the bike and hauled me off to jail for nearly tripling the speed limit, but he was cool about it. JUST PULL OVER.

Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

I don't run just because with a -1 +15 sprocket, rear tire with 7psi and a front with around 20psi I'd be asking for a wreck. plus the 1.25 gallon gas tank is almost always close to empty. I've been pretty lucky with tickets so I figure I have a few points on my licence to "use up" before I start worrying about tickets.

Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

Hell, I'd just pull over.

Been riding for almost 3yrs now and no tickets (knock on wood). I've been pulled over many times, in town and interstate. Everytime I've been pulled over I just treat the cop with a little respect, he sees I've got a valid license and I'm off the other way doing a wheelie ticket free. Just my , but you probably have a better chance just pulling over.

Good points other than the above quote R6VP. A wreckless driving is about $350 dollars and about $400 to fight it. $150 to get your bike out of inpound. Your insurance will go up at least $500 to $100 a year for three years unless your under 18 then you would loose your license. All in all theres not much chance of getting out of a Wreckless for much less than 1 to 3 grand when it's all done...........and yes, that's still not worth your life. Cops should not be allowed to chase over 80 mph for simple traffic violation, it's not worth the runners, cops or innocent by standers lives. I read about this shiitt every week..."kid killed in parking lot by out of control cop car" or "17 year old killed for what would be a 10 over speeding ticket". Makes no sense to me. To run is not good and it shouldn't be done, but it shouldn't carry the death penalty. If the cop cant get him with the radio, road block or video...........so what, a guys gets a way with speeding. I think we all do that every day

Re: Running from the POPO or Pulling over.

r1dude...just because this was a simple traffic violation does not mean that any chase should end at 80mph plain and simple the most ignorant thing I have ever heard. So then any major criminal could just run and then the cops would have to break it off. That would just give every real criminal the knowledge that if they run they will be let go...bullshit. It is time for the world to take responsibility for their actions..this sue happy society makes me ill...yes if someone really deserves to get sued fine...but everyone sueing cops because cases like this....just plain stupid...don't break the law and you will not get tickets...its like Keith (lou_brakant said) its a game....

Police are treated like gods and get away with everything. They should be held accountable for the BS they do also, but aren't. PROTECT and SERVE, not kill and be a fuccking ******* to everyone they pull over. As a matter of fact the last time I look, I believe I pay them with my taxes. Cops don't go after "Major Criminals" because it dangerous and cost money. They do seatbelt stings to pay the broke citys and give riders like us $500 ticktes for popping a wheelie on a deserted street. How about a missing kid or battered woman sting..........maybe I would start thinking a little different. They killed this kid for a traffic violation, bottom line. Yah the kid was wrong for running, but did he deserve to die. I wouldn't have sued the cop, I would have beat him to death if it was my son that died.
