Bikers Caught on 494 going 150mph
This week's warm weather may have gone to a few drivers’ heads.
Late last night Bloomington Police say fifteen motorcyclists were going seventy-five-miles-an-hour along 494. And when cops tried to stop them they say the bikes started going even faster reaching speeds of one hundred fifty miles an hour.
It's a perilous need for speed. An obsession occasionally caught on metro traffic cameras. For state troopers, the view is often fading taillights.
"It takes us away from more important things, generally speaking we're protecting people from themselves."
Tuesday night around eleven o'clock it was a pack of about fifteen rocket bikes ripping down 494 eastbound near Pilot **** Road, at speeds reaching one hundred thirty miles an hour. And just when Bloomington police thought one of them was pulling over...
"It popped a wheelie accelerated off and back to a high rate of speed in a short period of time."
The State Patrol picked up the chase, at 494 and Hwy 52. Now some of the riders were clocking one-hundred-fifty-miles-an-hour.
Eventually troopers caught two of the riders. Twenty-seven-year old Adam Blomquist of Minneapolis and twenty-nine-year old Christian . Christian is a volunteer cop. A reserve officer for Minnetrista police. The department has suspended him pending further investigation.
Both men are sitting in jail. For the rest, it may've been just a bump in the road. But the State Patrol says they won't get away for long.
"We may be outgunned in terms of speed, but we got radio. These people generally don't get away."
