Alleged war criminal says he was forced to kill Muslims
October 8, 2004
BOSTON -- A Bosnian immigrant charged with concealing his military past to get into the U.S. told federal authorities he was forced at gunpoint to participate in the slaughter of thousands of Muslims, his lawyer said.
Marko Boskic, 40, was indicted last week on federal immigration charges. He has been in federal custody since he was arrested in August at his condominium in Peabody, where he'd been living and working as a construction worker for the past four years.
Prosecutors say Boskic was an executioner in the 10th Sabotage Detachment, which was involved in the mass killing of Muslims near Srebrenica in 1995.
His attorney, Max Stern, released a written statement Thursday that Boskic gave to the FBI following his arrest. In it, he said he had been held in a Serbian concentration camp for about six months in 1994 and was released only on the condition that he join the unit.
"The only way I got out of the camp was to join the military of the Republic, or I would be liquidated," Boskic said in the statement, which was obtained by The Boston Globe.
He went on to say that the unit's commander ordered him to join in the executions outside Srebrenica in July 1995, and he had no choice but to comply.
"He came up and put a pistol on (my) forehead and said that I have to, or I will be dead," he said.
Stern declined to say whether Boskic had admitted to participating in the murders.
Boskic is charged with four counts of immigration document fraud and one count of making false statements. He allegedly lied on applications for refugee and permanent resident alien status by not revealing his complete military history.
The indictment also includes allegations that Boskic killed one or more people to persecute them for their ethnic origin, race or religion.
About 7,500 Muslim men and boys were slaughtered in and around Srebrenica during nine days in July 1995. The incident galvanized international action to put an end to the Bosnian war.
If convicted, Boskic faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison on each of the four document fraud charges and five years in prison on the false statement charge.
He also faces deportation to Bosnia-Herzegovina, where he could be tried as a war criminal
7,500? Lazy bastards, they should have lined them and put one round through 4 hearts at once. save ammo that way.

Give him a medal??? That’s like saying we should praise Hitler for killing Jews.
I’m not up on all the events surrounding this, so I could be wrong and I do feel sympathetic to his story but the guy lied to get in to the US so he cannot be trusted.

U.S.M.C. Well that explains it (in a good way).
I hope you get to come home soon. Stay safe!
Yes, I would lie.
Question? If you were placed in a camp and only released if you participated at gun point in the killing of Americans or Christians … would you take the bullet or pull the trigger? It’s a hard question to answer… all depending on the circumstances; I don’t know what I would do.
