any one know about big tires for trucks/jeeps?

well im getting a truck soon. if everything goes right by next week. it has a 3 inch lift on it but just has the regular stock wheels on it. i want to get the biggest tires that will fit on it wich are 35's but my boss said they would suck on the highway. i was just wondering if anyone know is there is a good brand that makes big tires that are ok on pavement. right now im looking at the BF Goodrich all terrains and/or BF Goodrich mud terrains.

Check out the Pro Comp X-Terrain. They were quieter than BFG All Terrains on my jeep. Plus, if you do go off road, they work great. Last fairly long too. BFG mud terrains suck on the street. Loud, and sh!ty wet weather traction. They arent even all that good off road.

Lucas... ask yourself, What do you want to do? Alot of people just wanna look cool, seriously. If you plan on going 4 wheeling, or doing alot of offroad, go with something sick. if not. who cares. ya know? but basically anything will fit on any rim if you want it too...

Re: any one know about big tires for trucks/jeeps?

The reason they will suck on the highway is because of your gear ratio and not which tires you select. The larger the tire the more you will need to regear your axles.
I just picked up Super Swamper Boggers. Now those tires are so loud on the highway. It sounds like a jet.

If you want agressive looks and not to bad wear on the street, check out the super swamper SSR radials. They work great on my jeep, I use the 35/12.50/15 with 7" lift.

Re: any one know about big tires for trucks/jeeps?

I have Goodyear Wrangler RT/S tires on my F-150. 285/75-16's which is about a 33" tire. The stock gearing isn't great for them. It's about a 14.5% bigger circumference than stock. It's fine for the highway and **** but it does downshift at every little hill. I also only have the 4.6L motor, so that's most of it. Any way the RT/S's are really nice, not too loud and good traction off road. If you keep them aired up and rotated every 5000 miles you can get between 60-80K on them.

What kind of truck is it? 35" is a huge tire for only a 3" lift.

Re: any one know about big tires for trucks/jeeps?

lets see...if its a 3" lift that means its probably only a body lift..though they may say 35's will fit, you'll probably be ripping apart your fenders if you hit a bump while turning...we always run a smaller size than recomended, like my friend has a 6" suspension and 3" body lift on his 95 gmc, and they say you can run 38's on this, but he runs 35's....we put 38's on it and there isnt any clearance for offroading...now tire wise, the BFG mud terrain isnt all that loud, the allterains i love and right now i'm running Nitto Terra Grapplers which i am very impressed with....like other people have said, ask yourself what your gonna do with the truck and decide on tires from there.

Re: any one know about big tires for trucks/jeeps?

wow thanks for all the replies. some one told me that 33s can fit on a stock dodge 1500. so with the 3inch lift i could put 35s on it. maybe its 31s on stock and 33s with the lift.

and ftrain, whats the biggest i could go without messing with the gear ratios? im really new to this so i appreciate all the help

im not looking to do a ton of off roading. maybe here and there. its just that the truck that im buying is a nice big truck with a 3 inch lift but only has the stock wheels on it. i want to put some big tires with a decent aggresive look to them. i just dont want to over due it so it sucks riding it on the highway and street.

Re: any one know about big tires for trucks/jeeps?

My trucks stock with 33's but it's not good for off roading. It would rub like crazy. I only got the tires because I wanted the wheels. I got them as a package deal used for $125. I recommend some nice looking 33's. You should be good with that. It will be on pavement most of the time anyway. Alot of the real aggressive tires not only are loud but don't wear as well. Get some A/T's.
