do ya think if I had to hit it with sand paper, I could just use 1K and then use 2K again?

Could try... I've never polished all the way to 2000 ... although I would have saved my money and used notebook paper, its about as rough.. LOL ... I usally take it up to 1000 then use a heavy cut, then fine cut rubbing compound ...
600 progressed my way up to 1K then went from 1K to 2K and then used Mothers with the angle Grinder Buffing wheel. That angle Grinder causes all the lights in the house to dim when ya use it

99, she's an oldie, but I try to take care of her. I've only been down once *knock on wood* but the bike had gone down once before when someone else was riding it.
So other than a few bumps and bruises, she's still a good bike.
