I have a checking account with a local bank that I use ONLY to pay my bills. I made a spreadsheet to figure out my monthly bill amount rounded up to the nearest $100 and I have half of that amount directly deposited when I get paid every 2 weeks.

So I have this checking account that doesn't earn any interest with an average ballance of $1,100 or so. So I opened up this account that gives me 4.5% interest.

 

So now instead of direct depositing into my checking account every 2 weeks, I direct deposit into the money market account. Then when I need to pay a bill I electronically transfer that amount of money from the money market account to the checking account.

 

exxcuse my ignorance but why not just put everything into the 4.5% account?
