I ride around Charlestown all the time. Charlestown is like less than a mile from downtown boston, but because it's kind of on a peninsular (across the harbor (or is the charles river at that point) from the central business district, and with the Mystic channel behind it), there's absolutrely no through traffic. There's a heap of old industrial land and a boat ramp area with a nice little fiddy track down by the Mystic which makes a good ol time.

I ride strait out of my back yard (if you can call it a yard - its barely big enough to squeeze my little trailer in) and brap it through the residential streets to get to the industrial land and the track. The cops are generallycool about it - they've got a lot more serious things to worry about than some guy on a minibike.

boston aint cheap. i pay $1850 / month for a 2 bedrm in charlestown. i looked at a few 1 brm apartments for around $1300 in the same area, but I have three 50s and five bicycles - I really needed the extra space.

try somerville - you might find one for $1000 to $1200... or you might be better off trying to rent a room in an established house of students or young professionals.
