Its pretty easy especially since its an Akra they fit together so nice their easy to shorten, I could walk you though it or do it for you. I just checked on the 636 I have here and it looks like that piece would just make it, the clamp would be right up against the strap on the end of the can....

Lets see how bad yours is then we can talk about options

cant tell from here but the tank is dented in......missing rear light....i bought it like this and added the dent on the side o the tank......nice huh....
