Bike is over heating in the parking lot.

However after i take the bike and run it on the road at say 30-40 mph it cools down

Fan is wired on at all times

Plenty of coolant in the bike.

Thermostat for sure. If the fan is hard wired ti should not overheat.

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

Umm, if it was the thermostat that was broken the bike would either run too hot or too cold all the time, depending on whether it was stuck open or closed. A thermostat controls the flow of coolant throughout the bike. When the coolant reaches operating temperature and or goes above it the thermostat opens up and allows coolant to flow which then cools down the bike to operating temperature which makes the thermostat close, then this cycle repeats itself over and over. So, if the thermostat was broken and it was closed at all times, the bike would always be overheating. If it was broken and open all the time then it could still over heat but it would also run cooler than factory specs most of the time.

So, with that out of the way I can safely say that I don't know what the problem is but you might want to try bleeding your cooling system.

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

i would remove the thermostat completely and make sure your not running straight water it has a lower boiling point than antifreeze...im sure you know these things just starting at the basics

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

COULD BE THE T-STAT THAT DOESN'T OPEN ALL THE WAY. HAD THAT PROBLEM IN THE DODGE.FLUSH THE SYSTEM, NEW STAT, AND USE ENGINE ICE OR WATER WETTER. DON'T FORGET THE MIXTURE OF FLUIDS TO WATER OR YOU'LL BE HURTING NEXT SPRING, IF IT FREEZES. BUT THATS RIGHT YOU KEEP THAT IN A HEATED AREA ? THEN CRACK OPEN THE BLEEDERS ON THE MOTOR FOR ANY AIR.

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

Removing the thermostat would help. Also, you can test a thermostat by boiling it in a pot of water and see if it opens and closes properly.

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

well tonight i flushed it with new 50/50 coolant and made sure there was no air in there, no changes. Ii'm debating on either throwing on my 954 radaitor or il probably call around for a thermastat, to me it just feels like when im in the city or or lot its not getting enough air flow coming through, started after i dropped the bike pretty hard.

anyone have a thermastat for the f4i....parker...calling parker still got that blown motor?

If you just take the thermostat out it won't make a huge difference, especially if you are mainly stunting it because its going to get hotter than usual with a working thermostat anyway. And, if you take the thermostat out and it still overheats then you will know you have a different problem.

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

jesse: pull the thermostat completly out of the bike....most racers do this modification as well.......

also, remove any of the rubber guards under the airbox that cover the spark plugs and radiator....helps with air flow......i've had numerous 636's and zx6rr's.....EVERY ****ing one of them is different in the over heating issue.....some run hot, some don't....i think it's more internally than anything, i've tried EVERYTHING...including engine ice (which doesn't work in a stunt bike) i basically run my bike till coolant boils out of the over flow......i've done this EVERY day for the last month to this poor bike in china.....they only allow me to run water in it because of race track rules.....which has a lower boiling point compared to antifreeze.....15 minutes and it's pushin steam out LOL

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

dont pull the thermostat just take the spring and the middle pin out of it so it slows the water flow down so it can still cool off the water

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

Replaced the thermastat, sensor, coolant, rad cap, fan on the whole time, and it still does it, it has to be the radaitor

runs fine ont he street, but in the lot it hits 250 in about 15-20 min of riding, and then lights start flashing. I think im going to all pro right now to let jim look at it and maybe just order a rad for it.

Re: Help me out people coolant issue

fixed.

it was orginally the fan relay switch, but when i wired the fan on it was spinning the opposite direction causing it to push air our instead of pulling cold air into the radiator.

Thanks to jim from all pro
