does anyone know if u can get a title for a motorcycle that only has a bill of sale in Wisconsin? i had heard that it was possible but has anyone here tried it?

 

i dunno if this helps....but i kno the bill of sale for wisconsin is the title.....

 

went u get a bill of sale from wi u dont get a title
what u get is a receipt.i have never gottom a title. i work in car dealer.so basilly bill of sale is for parts only.

pretty sure you cant get a title with only a bill of sale. Some states you can apply for a abandend vehicle title, but i dont think here you can. I'm also pretty sure that even if you go in with a vin number and say i want to know who the owner is so i can get a title from in that they will not release the info to you.

I have purchased a salvaged bike from another state once, and i got paperwork for it but it wasn't a title and it wasn't a bill of sale, the paperwork came from a buisness, and some how i was able to get a title for the bike. But it had to come from a licensed business to title it.

now i remeber, i had a salvage certificate from another state and when i brought it to the DMV they turned it into a salvaged title for wiscosin

 

if u have salvaged title u can only get a rebuilt salvaged title if u get it inpected by the state.it will never say clean title.

so basically i have this bike with just a bill of sale from MN. i have heard that if i have the bike inspected in WI the state will issue me a title. this is just what i have heard from other people but i doubt they know what they are talking about. do u have to have a bussiness to file for an abandoned title?

 

you can call the state troopers here in wi to find out, they do the inspections.

but for one, why would they inspect a mn bike when its not even titled here.

and two I really doubt you can even get it inspected here, inspection is for registration purposes only, has nothing to do with obtaining a title.

 

because in MN you CAN NOT get a title for a bike that only has a bill of title. I think it would be worth the trouble to have my brother, who lives in WI try to get a title for it so i could sell it for a little more cash.
Also you have to have a salvage title bike inspected in WI before the state will re-issue you a title. just trying to find some loopholes so that i can get a title. i will have to give the state troopers a call some time to find out more. thanks for all the help.
