Ok, I'm planning on moving down to that area very shortly... Probably just going to rent for a little while... Where are the best places to go/live, and where should I stay away from... I'll be working in the Livonia area... any help would be much appreciated...

Livonia is a nice place to live. I bought my first house in Redford, which was also pretty nice and definately one of the cheaper places that is still relatively safe. Westland and Garden City are also decent, and probably relatively inexpensive.

I'm in Canton. I haven't looked at prices for rentals, but the Plymouth-Canton area is a great place to buy if you can afford it (less expensive south of Ford rd).
