Racing / Stunt Show at US131 Motorsports Park

My name is Bryan and I am the Manager of Track Development at US131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan (North of Kalamazoo & South of Grand Rapids). In preparing for the upcoming race season, we have decided to heavily focus our efforts on creating a host of new events targeted towards motorcycles. Because the events will be designed around your requests and needs, I have opened every available line of communication with you that allows you to share opinions, questions, and comments. Below you will find my office hours, office location, e-mail, phone number, fax number, and even a screen name for AIM.

The current proposal is to have the first Sunday of every month (for three months straight) have 5 classes of drag racing, Pro ET (Bracket Racing), Top Gas (7.90 or slower Index style race), Unlimited Street ET (Heads Up / Max Wheel Base 60” / Nitrous & Turbo Okay), Stock Street ET (Heads Up, No Nitrous or Turbo, 750cc max, max wheel base 60”, and Street ET (bracket racing for street bikes). All of these events will hold a purse for the winner, runner up, semi, and quarter final racers) In addition to the drag racing, for each event we are considering having a different club each month to put on a stunt exhibition. After these three events, the following month we plan to hold a weekend event of motorcycle drag racing, snowmobile drag racing, and stunt competition. Also, throughout all these events we plan to have vendors come down to sell and showcase their products. Is the described program, something that appeals to your club, what would change if anything to make it suit your needs better? Would any of your members be interested in representing the Detroit Street Riders by showcasing their stunt skills at one of the events? I look forward to hearing all your comments and questions.

What happen to the street bike shootout 68 inch wheelbase?
Also I though Todd was working out a series between Milan and 131?

68" wheelbase bikes can run in the Pro Et class and the new class created for them the Top Gas class (most likely a 7.90 index). We did have a "Street Bike Shootout Class" last year, but due to a low turn out, the current proposal is to appeal to a larger group of street bikes by putting a limit on the length of the wheel base at 60" to ensure a competitive atmosphere with 80% of the bike populace.

How many people do you think are going to run in a 7.90 index? That is no faster than 7.90 right and heads up?

Re: Racing / Stunt Show at US131 Motorsports Park

Upon the poor racer participation for the 68" class, we consulted with Schnitz Racing and our local racers on our racing program, and they highly recommended adding a Top Gas 7.90 index class. We expect a lot more people, how many, we are still unsure. Yes that is correct, the fastest you can run is a 7.90 and its heads up. Unfortunately their isn’t enough 68" bikes around our area to sustain the previous street bike shoot out class...only half a dozen showed last year, so we combined their class with another to form the Top Gas (68” can also run Pro Et if they are interested in bracket style racing), and made two additional classes for street bikes with 60" frames. Once again, we are still in the proposal mode, which is why I came to your site to gather thoughts and comments.

Check out the heads up night at Milan I know atleast 8-10 serious races that will be 68 inches . And I have heard of atleast 12 bikes that will be competing. We usually have at least a dozen or so at all the events last year.

Re: Racing / Stunt Show at US131 Motorsports Park

We can not and do not want to duplicate what Milan is doing as we are in two total different markets. We need to make our program something that fits our market, both for racers and spectators. We are not about to make the same mistake in the past, in that our biggest purse was for the stretch bike frames and from a business standpoint we lost heavily. Nonetheless, ensuring that we still accomodate for the stretch bikes, which were hitting low 8's and high 7's, we created the 7.90 index top gas class.
