Police Issue Rules For Royal Oak Motorcyclists
Main Street Known For Motorcycle Crowds

ROYAL OAK, Mich. -- Motorcyclists who frequent downtown Royal Oak will have to learn a few new rules.
The city known for its downtown nightlife attracts many metro Detroiters, including motorcyclists. Wednesday nights in Royal Oak are known for the Harley Davidson crowd and Thursday nights are meant for "bikes built for speed," Local 4 reported.
Some residents say the motorcycles are too loud, so Royal Oak police have set a few ground rules, according to the station's report. Police issued fliers welcoming motorcyclists to the city, but asking that they behave.
Sgt. Chris Jahnke advises motorcyclists, "Don't open it up and you won't have problems with us," referring to revved-up engines.
"Don't draw attention to yourself and we won't be stopping you," added Jahnke.
Both sides of Main Street fill up with motorcycles on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
"Everybody pretty much behaves themselves," said Mike Jarnigan, of Birmingham, who watched the motorcyclists in Royal Oak Wednesday night.
Business owners said they enjoy the crowd, but try to balance business with a decent quality of life, Local 4 reported.
"We love to have them," said business owner Ralph Guftafson.
Guftafson said the motorcycle crowd is "very well behaved."
"I think any city that wouldn't want this would be crazy," said Guftafson about the motorcycle crowd.
