You can buy a manual tire changer from harbor freight with the motorcycle tire attachment for that. At least that's about how much we paid for it and what we use on our sport bikes.

It's what we use to change our tires.

Re: tire change help

why would you need a bead breaker? all you need is a blanket and a truck/car :P i change my own tires and thats all you need to break the bead...after that you need some pieces of fairly thick plastic so you dont scratch your rim..and 3 tire irons

Re: tire change help

That's the old school "manual" way of changing tires. It works, tho!

Re: tire change help

yep yep.. first let all the air out of the tire..best to just take the valve out of the rim...lay a blanket down, lay your rim down ..have a friend hold it or put it up against the curb in the street like i do...pull your car (truck works best and thats how i do it) up next to the tire with your tire...carefully drive over just the tire and as close to the rim as you can get..turning the wheel of your vehicle with the radius of the rim you have on the blanket...do this a few times and the bead will pop off easily

after that use the tire irons and work the tire off the rim...use a little bit of dish soap mixed with some water so its nice and slippery..KY might work :P

Re: tire change help

The manual changer we have has an arm on it that you use to break the bead without doing all of that. LOL It's pretty easy. It will also hold the rim so you can pry the tire off and put the other one on. It's the same concept, but it's much easier and more compact than your method. It can be done in a small corner of the shop...out of the weather and onlookers!

I never said anything about it being faster, just easier. I won't argue that point. We were pretty freaking slow changing a tire the last time we did it. We had a helluva time getting that damn tire on. I had to put a little boob into it to get that bitch on...don't even ask.

you don't even need a bead breaker, or your friends car. Do it all with two tire irons
