Should cops be able to chase at high speeds
Should cops be able to chase at high speeds
Okay, I'll start a pole even though I think my opion will loose. I don't believe cops should chase someone over 80 mph for a traffic violation, I'm not talking murderers or kidnappers thats a different case. This is extremely dangerous and kills innocent people every week, including the police officer sometimes.
Others think if you run from the police for a traffic violation that you crash and die then tuff luck.

Re: Should cops be held responsible
Sorry Dan, had to go with no....and flip's ghey.
Anywho, I don't think they should be held responsible for doing their job. This actually pisses me off a little because its trying to shift the blame and it makes people not be responsible for themselves. There should not be a limiting law that says if a pursuit goes over 80mph, end the chase. If that were true everyone would always run. It all depends on the situation at hand and cops should have enough common sense to know if they should end the chase or not. If it obviously endangers others lives, then they should end it.
Example 1: Chasing a motorcyle through a school zone between 6am and 8pm. If it gets out of control where it endangers innocent bistandards it should be ended.
Example 2: Chasing a motorcycle on the interstate at 11pm. Usually not very many cars, not much chance for anyones else to get hurt. I wouldn't see a problem with continuing the chase.
Instead of making set rules for everything, people should be empowered with common sense. If they can't handle that, then they shouldn't be in the position. Thats one of the main problems I see with GM.

How about the Cops that can't obey traffic laws. I had one turn right on red without stopping this morning. I had to swerve to avoid him or slam on my brakes. Then he had the nerve to pull me over. What a jerk.

Re: Should cops be able to chase at high speeds
thats a tough call. On one hand the cop should try and get someones plate and lay off cause you could hurt someone, i truly believe that, especially since the person is crazy enough to run. The cop is just doing his job though. Its jsut a tragic situation, and ya no one would stop if cops didnt chase us. Ive been pulled over from some cops that have told me we wont chase you its not worth hurting poeple. Before and after this was said to me i ran from cops on my bikes. I guess i can only look at it this way, if it were one of the times i was running, and i died, i wouldnt want the cop to be in trouble for it. I use to run just for fun cause i was an idiot and got a rush out of it. Poeple like me that use to run and have a flagrant disregard for the laws are the ones that get poeple hurt.
I feel for ryans family that got killed down river. Hope they end up understanding it was there sons choice to do what he did...he was the one that decided running and risking someones saftey was better then the ticket...not the cop, cause i sure and the hell know that when i did it i was the one in the wrong
RIP Ryan

Just to clear it up a little.........I don't agree with running from the cops and I do believe that it's not worth it, but some people (especially young) don't always make the correct choice in life. If I died for everything stupid I've done or wrong choice I made I would be on my millionith life. I still believe the chases are to dangerous and just not worth lives.
