Yea are the drivers installed for the NIC? Did you check what IP your pulling from the NIC to the cable modem?

I assume your using XP so goto Start click on RUN then type in CMD hit ENTER.

type in ipconfig hit ENTER

you should see your nic card there with an ip address.

192.x.x.x is either pulling an IP from a router, or the cable modem itself if its the later then your cable modem is not communicating with the headend.

169.x.x.x is a default IP from OS and is bad sign.. no communication with NIC to DHCP server.

If your IP is 24.x.x.x / 68.x.x.x / 71.x.x.x or something other then the first two you have a valid IP from cable modem.

Send me your MAC address 12 digit address on your cable modem I can see from the headend what its doing.

Got it, it was a problem with the NIC card among other things. This whole computer is one gigantic mess but it's inching closer to normal. Thanks anyways

so how do you have a NIC card? A network interface card card? is that faster? I know a lot of people say it, just whats the point of an acronym if you say the words anyway
