just got home!
the trip was insane!
travis killed it, had it in the bag, but in his final run he tried to step up onto a wooden drop in from a tiny dirt landing and wadded it up really bad. i think he broke a few ribs and knocked himself silly, maybe even broke his collar bone. TP is an animal. nobody in there right mind would have even thought of tryin this step up at the comp. TP is the man cause hes always pushing it 110% :YEAH
ok, my eyes are burning from all the smog..im out!

RED BULL X-FIGHTERS: THE FINALE
(4/2/06) A relative unknown rises to the occasion in Mexico City
(4/2/2006)
By John Basher
Travis, Travis, Travis. I feel like a bad omen. I attended the Daytona Supercross just short of a month ago, where Travis Pastrana landed on his head. I attended the Red Bull X-Fighters in Mexico City last night, and Travis fell down and slammed his crown again. It’s painful to watch someone augur into the dirt, but when it’s Travis Pastrana it really pulls on my heartstrings. Why? The kid, at 22 years young, has sustained more concussions than an entire professional football team would in a year. It’s downright scary. As a fan of the sport, someone in the industry, and a good acquaintance of Travis, I worry about him. It’s no time to get misty eyed though, because now is when Pastrana should step back and reflect. He needs to look at his recent string of sustaining two concussions in just shy of a month’s time. People always say that Travis will be Travis, and in no way should he change what he’s about, but I want to see him riding motorcycles and still being Travis at 40. Take a break, my friend, and focus on Rally Car Racing for a while. I will miss seeing your electrifying riding and listening to your great personality shine in front of the crowds and media, but I want you to overcome your dangerous string of concussions.
The crash was ugly, to say the least. It occurred midway through Pastrana’s finals run. Up to that point Pastrana had the top qualifying scores in the preliminary and semi-final rounds. He didn’t need to go crazy or do anything outlandish in order to win the Red Bull X-Fighters in Mexico City. But Travis was Travis, and he attempted an unimaginable step-up from a few feet high dirt mound onto a platform. The only reason I knew it wasn’t impossible was because he cleared the obstacle in practice just hours before the night show. His downfall came from Mother Nature, who just so happened to share a brief but heavy rainstorm. The rains turned the rock hard dirt into slippery terrain. Due to the dirt Pastrana didn’t get a sufficient drive leading up to the dirt mound. He came up drastically short and the repercussions came quickly. Travis shot straight to his head, tumbled like a rag doll down a ramp, and was quickly attended to. The crowd went quiet briefly while everyone was waiting to see what the outcome would be. As for myself, my mouth was wide open and I shook my head from side to side in disbelief. I didn’t think it could be possible for Travis to crash again. He had ridden flawlessly all evening and obviously had the event in his hands, but in a split second everything changed. Amidst my sorrowful trance the 42,000 fans started chanting “Travis” over and over again. It was a powerful statement and somehow helped, because moments later Pastrana got to his feet with the help of two medics. After a signature thumbs up from TP he was gingerly taken out of the stadium and back to the pits. Shortly after news came that he sustained another concussion and apparently was having difficulty seeing out of one of his eyes. For a night that was otherwise filled with energy and excitement, Travis’ crash had a converse effect.
Hopefully Travis will be rebound and, like I mentioned before, take a breather from freestyle motocross and motorcycles in general.
There shouldn’t be any discrediting Swiss rider Mat Rebeaud. The new kid on the block absolutely blew everyone else’s doors off. He had a slow start in the preliminary round and ended up on the bubble for qualifying into the next round. In the semi final he was firing on all cylinders though and proved to be a serious threat to Pastrana. During the main Rebeaud (pronounced “Rebeau”) threw down a great run that included a unique backflip that he just learned one week prior to the X-Fighters. In snowboarding and skiing it would be similar to an underflip, and although it’s not a 360, it still has the same “Oh my word he’s going to die” type of effect. Mat capped off his run with backflip heel clickers and other super technical tricks. If Travis hadn’t crashed it might have come down to the wire, but all evening the judges were scoring Pastrana higher (and both riders practically duplicated their runs in every round). Still, Rebeaud deserved the win because he stayed up and didn’t risk anything that didn’t need to be attempted. Expect to hear Mat’s name a whole lot more in the oncoming months as the freestyle world turns towards the start of the Dew Action Sports Tour.
To me, Ronnie Renner is one of the top riders that is vital to the future of freestyle motocross. No, he doesn’t come up with new tricks every weekend or have the bad boy image, but the guy is an entertainer! There’s a reason why the Mexican fans absolutely love Ronnie. He works the crowd, gets them on his side, and then performs for they frenzied fans. Aside from having the most insane upside down whip in the world and a host of other top tricks, he dances. To clarify, he dances like a madman. Sure, some of his moves are bordering on a PG-13 rating, but Ronnie is energetic. In turn, the crowd becomes involved and it turns into a two minute long party when Renner is riding. He brings an entertainment side to freestyle motocross that needs to be explored further. In no way am I saying that freestyle should meld into a wild group of WWE wresting type personalities, but the fans sometimes need a kick in the pants to get excited about an event. Ronnie does it, and he does it extremely well. Pastrana does the same, as do several other riders, but who wants to see a rider that does his run and shows as much emotion as a snail afterwards? Great moments are magnified by human emotion, and Renner is the epitome of how a freestyle rider should play towards the crowd. Then again, not every rider should be humping the air and doing the sprinkler on command. Hopefully in the future all of the riders will show their true personalities for the crowd, because every event could be non-stop fun.
As for the event itself, words cannot describe the atmosphere. Seeing 42,000 screaming fans waving handkerchiefs in unison while chanting rider names was surreal. It meant that for one-night ten freestyle riders from all over the world owned the streets, the stadium, and hearts of fans in Mexico City.
Red Bull X-Fighters Results:
1. Mat Rebeaud - Switzerland
2. Ronnie Renner - U.S.A.
3. Travis Pastrana - U.S.A.
4. Danni Torres - Spain
5. Andre Villa - Norway
6. Robbie Maddison - Australia
7. Nate Adams - U.S.A.
8. Eigo Sato - Japan
9. Sebastian Mejia - Columbia
10. Johan Nungaray - Mexico
