The ladel
Jane had been dating her boyfriend Mike for a long time, and her mother wanted to know if they had been sleeping together. Jane assured her they did not believe in premarital sex, but she still wasn't convinced.
They invited Jane's parents to have Thanksgiving dinner with them. They all had a lovely evening and everyone left stuffed and happy. A few weeks later, Mike said to Jane, "Honey, I can't find that silver gravy ladel that we last used at Thanksgiving."
Jane wrote to her mother, saying "Mother, I am not saying you stole the silver gravy ladel, and I'm not saying you didn't. But the fact remains that it has been missing since you visited for Thanksgiving."
Her mother wrote back quickly, saying "Jane, I'm not saying that you have been sleeping with Mike, and I'm not saying you haven't. But if you had been sleeping in your own bed, you would have found the gravy ladel."
