Florida riders
Florida riders
Hey guys I gotta get this straight from someone that knows what they are talking about because everyone here has a different opinion and I gotta know the full reality.
What is the law in Florida about bikers speeding?
Some say, we cant be chased at all, its illegal for the popo's because it puts everyone at risk.
Some say, we cant be chased if their radar catches us at 90mph or above.
Some say, that aint right :P
What the hell is the truth?
Ive tested it out kind of, and no matter what speed I got either 20mph over or 70mph over, they just seem to let us organ donors just ride the way we feel like.
Ive only been pulled over once and that was when I was going "too high to mention" amount of speed... He didnt chase me, I passed like 5 lights and as I was at a red light thinking he didnt even bother, 2 units surrounded me, one being him behind me. BUT there was no chasing involved. They ended up letting me go because of I was polite/didnt run/too much pain for them/clear record... whatever the hell their reason was.

Re: Florida riders
there is supposed to be a no chase law but they never abide that law. they just turn there lights off and chase you and wait until you crash and give you a reckless. there is a new law that states if you go 30 over they can take your bike forever and your motorcycle license for 10 years and jail time and a big ol fine.

Re: Florida riders
Cops here will pull you for speeding and they will chase you lights flashing and all. If there is a law, they don't give 2 ***** about it. Just like we don't give 2 ***** about the speed limit or wheelie laws.
Re: Florida riders
30 over in fl in any vehicle is considered reckless.
either wheel off of ground is reckless
standing up in any way shape or form is reckless
it's cops decision to chase, but they will usually turn lights off and try to catch you after you think you've gotten away, or try to zoom in on camera to get license plate, then come sieze you bike at a later date. and arrest you for fleeing and eluding.
In my opinion, the cop that chases a bike, at any speed, is either rookie, or has a god complex. verterans or even someone who rides, won't bother, they know the risks and and care if you live or die, they figure it's easier to let you live, besides it's not like they get in trouble for not chasing you.
oh, and now even your 1st reckless, on motorcycle for wheelies, stoppies/endos, or standing, basically anything that can be considered a stunt, will land you a court date in which the judge has the ability to revoke your motorcycle endorsement for up to 10 years. I just went to court for 2 reckless and only got 90 suspension tho. so, it all depends.

Sucks. I just saw a guy get arrested with a cbr1000. He was obviously waiting on a red light as the undercover trolls surrounded him. I heard the whole convo between the cops as I was waiting in the red light.
He was going 100mph+ & doing wheelies.
He was smiling going into the cop car :P

Re: Florida riders
yea can't say much but, i know of someone they didn't try and chase, after this someone passed them on the rear wheel, while they where running radar, they turned there lights on but soon as this person
set it down and took off, that was it, but i'm sure thats not always how it happens

I was talking to a local pig down at the beach gas station we always go to, he came over to check out the bikes, and I asked him what he'd do if we tried to run, he just said he'd let it go, a speeding or careless ticket isn't worth an accident no matter what, and if we were crazy enough to run then we'd eventually get caught doing something else. Karma basically, haha, and all this happened and i have a revoked license and driving right under his nose.
