Q for you lucky sponsored *****
About sponsorship. Who sponsors you? How did you convince you sponsors to sponsor you? How did you aproach and contacted them? Did you show them some materials (pics, vids)? What did they sponsor you with? - The whole bike? Stunter equipment (cage, bar, etc)? Fuel (not so cheap hehe)? Did you sign some contract?
Just to be honest I suck (don't flamme on me plz) but I'm asking this because I may have a company that would sponsor me with the whole bike and gear in company logo/colours, so any tips would be welcome.

Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
i sponsored some people before, didnt do anything for me to be honest. you need to show vid more than anything else because thats what shows your style. pics are cool, but they dont do justice in this sport. you need to approach them with a sales pitch telling them what you can do for them and explain what they need to do for you. be yourself, or you will never make it.
Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
Make a promo packet, make it look professional. Talk about how you could help their company, or sell their product. Send it to different places, but don't talk like a punk, or mention that your the best stunter in the world either. Companies could really care less if your the best stunter in the world, they are tryin to sell and image, they have got like the way you look.
Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
yeah, I tried to go on professional level, I explained that me and the bike would be the "allaround moving presenteverywhere commercial" for them, and that stunting is dreawing attention and "gets" in everyones eye. Hope I get a positive response...
Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
sponsorship...i could go on for days.
#1 lesson, it is not what they can do for you, but what you can do for them.
you have to convince them that you will rep them in a prof manner on and off the bike. sometimes you have to do a lot of work at the beginning for chump change in return, after you have successfully marketed yourself, you have some more power to get more out of the sponsorship.
try to establish a personal relationship with each sponsor...i try and call every couple weeks with results, or just to say hi and ask if so and so called them.
Argo Cycles-two fresh bikes a year, plus parts, plus transportation. i worked for 2 years for a few parts and repped them hard, i sold bikes for them and referred people to them, now when i ask for something, they give it to me. it helps that i have an established reputation in this game, but i also worked hard to cultivate a personal relationship with them. i stop by once a week to bust their ***** or tell them i won.
you also have to show the sponsor what your goals are for yourself and for them. for example, with my leather sponsor, Motophoria, i had a goal of selling X number of jackets and X number of armour suits, etc. i also hooked them up with a few dealers. i go to the owner's house for dinner...end result: free gear, and willingness to support me because i try hard to support them
there are a lot of sponsorship opportunities out there, but you have to separate yourself from teh rest of the hooligans "looking for a handout". do for them first, and they will do for you. you also have to stand by the products you want. i choose companies whose products i believe to be the best, not only for my own benefit, but also so that i am not lying when i tell people about them. i dont wanna recommend a particular company if i dont think they will do a good job dealing with the customers i send them, it is my name on the line too.
Argocycles-bikes and parts
Motophoria-leather and gear
Woodcraft-clipons, rearsets, casecovers
Freestyle Ingenuity-framesliders, bars, cages
MotoHeaven-chains, sprockets, and other stuff
Taildraggerz-paint, money, support in general
Cheetah-bodywork
riding my stuntbike literally costs me the gas i need to run the bike and sometimes the gas i need to get to the event...not bragging, just goes to show that if you work hard and carry yourself in a professional manner, people are willing to help you out.
good luck, i'd be more than happy to answer any questions you may have.

Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
I agree with the above.
Also if they aren't a stunt company, explain what you can do for them "outside" their normal customers etc.
I go to import car shows, dirt 50 events, races, bike nights, etc. All different crowds, all different potential customers.
Also hot chicks sporting thier products doesn't hurt either

Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
This company has nothing with bikes or stunts, it is a national cell phone provider - a mobile network. It is hard to reach people in this company but one of my friends is working there and he said he could hook me up for some talk with them. I offered them - complete bike and gear covered in their logos, colors, stickers, whatever they want. I said I would be on every moto/stunt show, and riding bike private, and for practice. That king of money doesn't mean anything to them, cuz they spend x10 money just on Tv commercials every day, but it is hard to convince those people that they have something out of it.
Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
in this case, you need to educate them on the popularity of motorsports in general...nascar, supermoto, etc. this stuff is all over tv and other media avenues. get some pics of you with the crowd in the background and explain/show to them the # of people you will saturate by having their name on the side of your bike.
i wouldnt promise too much in the way of signage (your bike and gear), you have to leave room to grow for the next season. if you give them your whole bike for $500 bucks, what are you going to give them for $1500 the next year?
get some #'s on motorsports in general, and show them some examples of others (other sports mostly) who have found motorsports to be a great way of advertising. even break down their dollars for them...ie. $500 bucks of sponsorship and 10,000 people will see it-that way they can compare bang for buck.
one last thing: with a company like this, 500 bucks is chump change. all they can do is say no, or make a counter offer. shoot high and present a nice package, be professional and make them want to work with you.
good luck

I took your advice and gave instructions to my buddy what to say. I said I could organize few stunt shows in the few biggest cities (i have alot of friends who would help to organize some events), I said I could appear in moto-magazines, I could for shure appear on one hot show on private TV network that beggs for extreme stuff (and thrust me here where I live stuntriding is pretty much extreme). I offered much ideas and plans, even making and publishing DVD with some friends casting in it with me. Overall looking I suck, but as far as I've seen on our biggest moto-event (which is popular even in few neighbooring countries) no one has a **** in stunt tricks. I saw only one man 12 and scrape supermoto, but he is a real pro stunter. Other than than all people have are basic wheelies with some little variations, bad flamingos, and one footed highchairs. They suck. So I might have a chance.

Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
if you do not already have an established rep, you will unlikey receive free products. you will more likely get a discount on product, which at your early stage is great.
your PLAN for the potential sponsor is what will set you a part. 99% of the riders out there just want something for free, they never think about doing their part as best they can for the sponsor. included in your plan to promote them should be your schedule for the following year.
be careful about lying or stretching the truth with your schedule or results (i've seen some teams do this), it will eventually catch up to you and your rep will be trashed. this community is pretty small and poeple in the industry know who the top riders are, as well as the up and coming rider, but they also know who the aholes are and the guys who are up to no good.
normally, the sponsorship season ends about nov 15th, sometimes longer. this is when companies are setting their advertising budget for the following season. although some stunt specific companies will work with you whenever.
another great example: i called up this guy from this company i was interested in yesterday. after i introduced myself and checked to see if he had heard of me, i asked about his product, wanting to know WHY it was better than the competitors. after he explained why and told me who else was running it, i decided that i wanted to work with this guy because: a. his product was the best; b. he was knowledgeable and i could tell he was willing to help out stunters.
i then asked if he was interested in full or partial sponsorship for 2005. As he is a new company, he said he could do cost for me on the products. awesome i thought; and i said that i would send him my resume and a plan for what i could do to market his product and we could go from there. i gave him a few reasons why i thought i could sell his product in my area (a quick synopsis of my plan), and by the end of the conversation, he decided to send me out 1 of his products for my bike free because he felt that i would be an asset to his company. i assured him that i would send my resume and my plan, and was 100% confident that i will sell a lot of his product, and am 100% confident that he will send me another one of his product for my other bike.
moral of the story, make yourself valuable to your sponsor and they will go out of their own way to help you out. i worked to establish a relationship with this 'guy' before i asked for anything and there was some mutual respect there.
as far as that big company...500 bucks was just an example, you are doing the right thing by shooting for the stars, but don't be afraid to settle for a landing on the moon in your first attempt-or even just a really high flight in a jet plane!! motorsports are HUGE worldwide and motorcycles in particular are much bigger in europe...we can't even get a decent race to watch over here on nascarvision!
good luck...keep working at it, it doesnt happen overnight and may take a dozen times to show that you are persistent and willing to work.

Motophoria National Marketing Plan 2004
Purpose: Leather Sales and National Brand Recognition
Avenues of Advertisement:
o Word of Mouth
o Direct Advertisement
o Media-Magazine, Internet, Videos, Television
Methods:
-Word of mouth is effective only within communities. Two communities susceptible to this type of advertisement are the New England area motorcycling community and the Stuntlife community. The New England region is my home region and where my influence is the strongest. Many motorcyclists look to the local stuntriders for advice and suggestions on what and where to purchase motorcycle related products. StuntLife is a small stunting community where those with respect and street credit can influence others in every aspect of stunt riding - including what kind of leathers to buy, and more importantly, where to get them. My influence and respect in both these communities is enough to sell between 5-10 jackets per year.
-Direct advertisement will take effect in territories in which the Motophoria name is unknown. The Motophoria name will be recognized in these fresh areas due to motorcycle exhibitions and competitions in which the Motophoria sponsored bike will be visible. Both the U.S. Freestyle and National Stunt Riding Association (NSRA) 2004 season schedules will bring exposure to the Motophoria name in places such as Toronto, Michigan, Iowa, Kansas, Ohio, Las Vegas, California, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, Rhode Island, and even Australia! By continuing to place in the top 3 at every venue, the Motophoria name and logo will surely be seen and remembered by those people attending the event. Direct advertisement goals are 2-5 jackets sold during the 2004 season.
-Media can be considered the broadest reaching form of advertising. Within the category you have three main avenues: Print, Internet, and Video. Print is the most tangible of the three. The Motophoria name will be mentioned in all interviews and listed on all sponsor forms as well as being seen in all photos. Motophoria will be mentioned and suggested on all websites and forums that are able to be influenced, primarily Stuntlife.com and NEStreetriders.com (New England). My influence is broad in both these forums. The total members between both forums currently tops 20,000 members and counting– all target consumers in the motorcycle community. Finally, videos will feature the Motophoria sponsored bike in action as well as video mention, and will work in conjunction with direct advertisement. Media sales goals are 4-8 jackets sold.
Visual Advertisement:
-The Motophoria sponsored bike will be painted in consistent manner the entire season, and will always be kept clean and professional in appearance. Stickers displaying the Motophoria logo will be visible on the side/lower fairings as a secondary sponsor. Stickers displaying the Motophoria website will also be placed on the motorcycle. The jacket will display the Motophoria logo in a prominent place conducive to visibility in both action photos and cameo shots. Motophoria apparel will always be worn at shows and events, prominently displaying the Motophoria name and increasing brand recognition.
Rider Needs:
For the 2004 season I am in need of general riding apparel. This includes, but is not limited to gloves, boots, jackets. Motophoria gloves are the absolute top of the line, and I would like to be supplied with this product as needed throughout the season. At most, the number of gloves needed will be 3 pair. I am also in need of a new leather jacket. I would like to promote the new Motophoria name /product with more design influence being placed on the jacket maufacturer ( Motophoria), and less on the group (Core6). I will be competing in the World Freestyle Championships in May of 2004-where I would like to debut the new Motophoria products.
Summary
Brand recognition is one of the most important aspects to marketing a company nationally. By displaying the current Deathrage/Motophoria logo at local and national events, people around the country will begin to recognize the brand and look to Deathrage/Motophoria for their motorcycle leather purchases. The logo will be easily readable and prominent on the both the rider and the motorcycle, increasing chances of brand saturation. Active promotion by myself will also provide direct sales, as well as increase awareness of Motophoria opportunities. Using the methods described above, I believe I can sell 15 jackets and a multitude of other Motophoria product during the 2004 season. The actual cost to you is small: the cost of 1 leather jacket, 1-2 pairs of boots, and 2-3 pairs of gloves. Our partnership has proved successful in the past and can only continue to prove beneficial to both parties in the future. Offhand, I can think of about a half dozen gloves and four to five jackets sold directly because I suggested your product. I am only willing to work with companies whose product I believe to be the best, as well as those who carry themselves in a professional manner-in both personal and business aspects of their lives. It is this reason that I have turned down free product and sponsorship opportunities from companies such as Vanson and Alpinestars-in hopes of solidifiying my relationship with you and the Motophoria family.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
simple, yet effective. this coming season will be my 3rd season with Motophoria.
this brings me to another point: without a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES your finishes at events are just about nothing. most sponsors want to see national advertisement, and small individual comps don't do much to show organization and forward progress.
the approach i took with Motophoria would not work with a small local shop because they are not necessarily interested in national advertisemnt...adjust your play to each individual sponsor. in addition to the above, i included my generic sponsorship package.
good luck. i hope i dont kick myself for being too nice!
here is what i sent to my leather sponsor last winter...as of right now, i have nearly accomplished my sales goals for Motophoria, not including the dealerships i set them up with.

It is this reason that I have turned down free product and sponsorship opportunities from companies such as Vanson and Alpinestars-in hopes of solidifiying my relationship with you and the Motophoria family.

simple, yet effective. this coming season will be my 3rd season with Motophoria.
this brings me to another point: without a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES your finishes at events are just about nothing. most sponsors want to see national advertisement, and small individual comps don't do much to show organization and forward progress.
the approach i took with Motophoria would not work with a small local shop because they are not necessarily interested in national advertisemnt...adjust your play to each individual sponsor. in addition to the above, i included my generic sponsorship package.
good luck. i hope i dont kick myself for being too nice!

I've had a fair bit to do with the Sport Compact drag racing scene in Australia and people are still always like, "their money is gonna get me.....".
They just don't realise that the potential sponsors don't care about that. They want to know where you'll be, how big the crowds will be, what media you'll appear in/on (TV is a big bonus) etc etc
The more times you can get their name out there (professionally and responsibly), the more comfortable they'll be that their sponsorship is working for them.

Thank you very much!
I cannot describe how much you helped with this. With the help of you r text I made mine with my own offers and approach. I think I offered them more very much, and my friend who works there, went to speak to some friends in marketing dept. with this offer and they said it could be done very easily, but he has to give my offer/presentation to one of the "big heads" in the company so they can think over it.
I explained in detail how would I represent them, and what would they get from it. I think it is hot stuff I wrote in there, but I stand behind my words, and can do all of what I said. After I explained everything, I wrote what I ask from them (the bike and gear). After a person reads all the gains from it, what I ask from them is very little. I tried to be very proffesional, and will see what happens.
I would post my presentation but it's on croatian so you wouldn't understand anything from it, and I don't have will to translate few pages of text...
Re: Q for you lucky sponsored *****
I sent vid's and pics, the whole package. My friend is going to present it tomorrow if he get to the "big boss", aldo people in marketing dept. after they saw package material said it's hot stuff and very interesting idea and way of making commercial. My friend said that he seriously think's it's gona work...
so here's the next question https://www.stuntlife.com/forums/sho...19#post1190219
