Fair Price....

Ok, finally, I think I have been able to get a good spot....

WHole story:

I am a student @ OU and they have a lot of parking lots, one in general, Lloyd Noble, is a nice flat huge parking lot, big enough to do slow stuff, fast stuff, etc. Well, I had been over there stunting and the cops tried to run us off, well, I really didn't want to leave, so being the outgoing person I am (lol), i called Lloyd Noble. Well, I am president of Motorsport of OU so it sounds a little better to say,"Hello, this is Matt with Motorsport of OU and I was wondering if you mind if we ride in your parking lot?" Well, ends up he doesn't care, in fact, SCCA has done autocross there before. So, a light bulb goes off, Motorsport of OU is a student organization that's broke...go figure...well, my idea is to open it up to everyone (with waiver), to come and ride the parking lot. Since it's going to an organization I'm not making any money just the club, so as long as it covers insurance costs and lets us buy a few cones i think it would be great.....so what's a fair price per night???

You want to keep out all the dumbasses and people who are going to ruin it for you I would say at least----AT LEAST-- $20 a day

I'm going to ride every night of the week (weather permitting) No way i'm going to drop 20 bucks every day. And i'm definitely not going to pay 20 bucks even once or twice a week to ride with a bunch of clowns. I'm not saying there IS going to be a bunch of idiots there, but if it's a safe spot, and it's legit chances are a bunch of careless ****s will show up, and get you hurt. So no thanks...i'll find my own spot, even if it isn't as big, and the police harass me. Around here the cops don't bust you up for being in a lot unless they get complaints, and they catch you there a few times...

I guess there are people who would every day, so maybe pro rate it or some **** like that $20 all day, $10 half day so people can afford it? I just thought it would help to keep the idiots out for as long as possible. I would keep the price up there for awhile and see what happens. I guess I would pay $20 to ride at a place all day and not have to worry about the cops, but thats me I ride better when I'm not looking over my shoulder.

Re: Fair Price....

Can't you just go without the insurance and just have permission slips?

Re: Fair Price....

I would pay a fair price to ride at a HASSLE FREE parking lot. Who knows you might even learn a new trick, that sounds like a good deal to me.

Re: Fair Price....

I think you should sell a limited # of season tickets. Then don't have insurance.

Re: Fair Price....

well, the deal is i'm going to ride a couple of weeks with the regular group there and see how things work out. (no charge)....then, i was really thinking like 5 bucks as long as we don't have high insurance expenses. We would only do it one night a week anyways, the other times we might do it for just our normal group free...my idea was to get people who don't know any better off of the street and into a safe environment and make the club a little money while we're at it. It's not like I have to pay for the parking lot so i'm not trying to make a dime here, just trying to help people out....Has anyone known of how something like this has turned out before?

Re: Fair Price....

insurance will be a ton. and i think a waiver and permission slips were also a suggestion. they dont matter at all. someone can sui you for damages anyways. look as disneyland, on the back of every ticket is a waiver of rights, but when someone dies or gets hurt on a ride, you better beleive they get a nice check.

its not going to be profitable even if you charge 20 per person, per day and have 50 people there everyday.

just rock out with your crew and leave it at that. once someone gets hurt or killed the cops are going to shut it down real quick

Hey Matt,
that parking lot is badass, we did a show or two there last year for different events. It sounds like a great idea, but have you looked into insurance yet....?
Insurance for a one, or two day event, is super expensive, I cannot imagine insurance for every week(even if it is only one day per week).

You get this spot, and I may even venture up there one week to ride.

Re: Fair Price....

well, here is the deal, i could keep it closed down to Motorsport & crew members only, but i was trying to get the club a couple of dollars and keep people out of tickets and give them a safe place to ride, but as everyone has made apparent, my biggest concern was the liability involved....

Re: Fair Price....

The person who owns the place is actually going to be the one who needs to worry about the liability if there isn't some kind of insurance to cover it. You aren't doing any kind of pubilc event that requires a permit so you are not required to have insurance, you could ask for donations from people to purchase the cones and/or caution tape whatever you are going to use to mark off areas where riders and spectators are supopsed to be.

Basically each person who who decides to ride there should be responsible enough to realize that if they get hurt then they bettr hope they have good medical coverage. It would be insane to sue the land owner for you getting hurt doing something you would have been doing anyway. But of course some a'holes take advantage of situations and try to get someone else to pay for their own stupidity.

Good luck with it. I am going to try the same thing with a Mall Lot near me in the spring..

Re: Fair Price....

If you want to ride at that spot for more than a month or two I HIGHLY reccommend that you do not open it up to the public. First off you know that people will start coming out there just to watch and those rat bastards will leave their bottles cans and garbage every time too.. no matter what you do to keep it from happening it will happen. You will also have some dumbass ****sticks come out, crash and sue. It didnt take us long to figure that one out. Most people think that people that sue are people that are just sue happy ********. The people that sue are the people that say they'd never sue.. that is until they wreck, get hurt bad and find out how expensive those medical bills are.. especially since they probably wont have any health insurance. They will sue. Or, sometimes the insurance company will sue. I say keep the spot on the DL and keep it closed to everyone except your members and close friends only.
