929 or 954 for slow stuff?

what's the biggest differance here? i'm wanting a 954 is this a better stunt bike than the 929 or just the same bike? does anyone stunt a 02 954 and do you have any problems rockin' slow stuff? thanks for the advice, Josh

Re: 929 or 954 for slow stuff?

From what i know both bikes are pretty close, but the 954 has a narrow tank compared to the 929 for highchair stunts. Dan Jackson rocks a 954 so they obviously work and many others use the 954 and 929 so i say just go with whatever one feels better to you.

Re: 929 or 954 for slow stuff?

i like the 929 better. It feels more like a 900 to me than the 954. 954's feel way too narrow and more like a 600 and they put me in a forward uncomfortable position. That's just me though.

also, the subframe on the 929's has a better (stronger) mounting point than the 954's. both of them are strong, but the 929's are stronger. seems like hte newer the bike got, the weaker it got. 900's are tanks, 929's are weaker but still stronger, and the 954's feel like they are going to fall apart any second cause they are so tiny and lightweight everything.

other than a completely different feel and geometry, they are damn near the same bike.

oh ya, parts are a hell of a lot more expensive on 54's than 29's cause they are newer.

Did you give them a jar of VASOLINE with it? You stole it at that price they are still going for 7500 around here.

Re: 929 or 954 for slow stuff?

also another thing, either way you go, you're probably going to have to have the throttle bodies synced to get the idle to work right. everyone says take the valves out but i did it on mine and it still does the funny idle. The only people i know that have it working are the ones that have had the throttle bodies synced.

im' just lazy and run 2k rpms though..haha

Both are nice bikes. Just put some gears on and youre good to go.

I took my valve abd flapper out....and didnt have my throttle bodies synched.....my idle is perfect. no complaints.

I took my valve and flap out and now have a dead spot from 5-7k rpm. Any 1 know about that. It is smooth every were else.

Re: 929 or 954 for slow stuff?

what's the best place to get gears from? i paid like $150 + for front and rear w/chain is that pucked up or what. i went +10 -1 but it was a 600 so it's time for everyone in midwest mayhem to step it up a little bit, thanks for the help.

i'm 1 down 10 up on my 929 and i like it.

don't go more than 1 down in teh front or your chain will eat your swing arm.

John is 2 down and it doesnt touch the swing arm
you cant go more than 15 up without mods to the swing arm though

hmm...i put the -2 from my 900 on my 929 and the chain was all over the swingarm. Also my friend frank that's a honda mechanic said 929's aren't designed to handle anything less than a 15 tooth front sprocket. He gave me some reasn, but what i remembered was the swingarm thing so i had to go try it out.
