Tire Backwards?
Tire Backwards?
OK... I got a rim and tire off e-bay a little while back. Somehow the jackass mounted the tire on backwards though. Can I ride with the tread facing in the wrong direction or should I have the tire remounted before I ride on it?

A lot of amatuer racers/trackday riders will mount a used set of tires backwards to get more life out of them.
Our local track is mostly lefts and puts a ton of wear on the left side. Last time I went, I mounted the tires backwards and rode all day w/o a problem. I would do it again in a heartbeat and have heard of many people doing the same thing.
Keep in mind this is track riding and on DOT race tires....if that makes a difference.

When the 1st D207's came to the track everyone was told by the Dunlop distributor to run them backwards on the FRONT tire. We were told to run the rear the correct direction. BTW, Dunlop switched the direction of their arrow on the F. tire the following season.
If you just going to do a burn-out and waste the tire, I wouldn't bother switching it. If you are going to ride on it at all, you may want to swap it.
