Question 929 vs. 954 ...Stunt concensus?

What is the general opinion within the 'stunt' community on the difference of these two bikes. I gather that everyone seems to favor the 929 for stuntin, but its lower production numbers have created a smaller supply of cheap used parts. I have heard that the 954 due to its lighter weight has picked up a tankslapping habit, but am curious as to the validity of that claim? With the difference in cost between an 01 929 & an 02 954 being so small I figure it makes more sense to go with the newer bike, but I am hoping to hear something that changes my mind.

Enlighten me please...

i say 954, only true downfall is its new and a bit more $$$ I also heard about the tankslapper theory...I am now a non-beliver, I went 400' on my stoppies the first day from 55-60 w/o a dampner, 2 blown fork seals, and 1 rotor soaked in fork oil

Damn, now thats pimp! McGyver ****.

They say the 929 is opt for tank slappers too. get a good stabilizer crank the facker down & let loose. The 929 brakes are off the hook & the 954 brakes (front) are better than those.

I rode a 954 for about 2 seconds, was a bit touchy - but i thought the same thing about my 929 when i 1st bought that.

i've had those since june. i always get tank slap on my 929 even with a scotts.

i like my 929 better though. the 54 feels a little more like a 600 to me. i don't like narrow tanks. also, i seem to find tons of cheap parts for my 929 so i don't complain about that. also, on the 54, don't you have to take out the idle screw nad use a 29's idle cable so you can adjust the idle on the 54? i'm not sure but i thought i heard something about this.

both are great bikes though, i'd say it's all about the feel of the bike though. they just feel different.

929's and 954's will both get tank slappers if you look at them the wrong way

Re: 929 vs. 954 ...Stunt concensus?

I think the 929 is a better stunt bike, the left rear footpeg is more comfortable due to the fact the tail isnt as wide and doesnt poke you in the side of you leg like the 954. The 954 front brakes are too touchy, it's harder to keep a stoppie smooth when a little movement on the lever could throw you over, the 929 front master cylinder is diffrent and not as touchy. I know the 954 is a bit lighter but it doesnt feel like much. Also the ergonomic's from seat to handle bars is diffrent on the 954 and is a more hunched over position like a R1. I know the early 2002 models were recalled for headset bearing's, they were all getting tankslappers because of problems with the headset's bieng too loose. Get a 929, save a few thousand and buy a cage and 12 bar duct tape and zip ties.

WTF. i hear about alot of people pulling long stoppies w/o a damper. i've gotten wobble on every bike i've owned and would never ride w/o one. is there a technique to not getting wobble? i'm pretty light 150lbs does that have an effect? lower tire pressure? even on my gixxer and a damper i still get wobble sometimes and need to drop the endo....TED

Re: 929 vs. 954 ...Stunt concensus?

Darius ,-go with the 54 its sick. I run two Toby dampners on it and switched the master cylinder to the 929's ms, yes the one on the 54 is touchey and I learned that the hard way... D says its not much lighter but I can tell the differance when I ride the 929. The tail does bother my leg a bit but that can easily be fixed with some spacers besides a couple of quick fixes the bike is a pimp.

150 lbs is part of it, less weight over the front end wont stick, and yes it has never got outta control on me and i dont "lock " my elbows either, I'd love to run a dampner, but i aint got the $$$...I still plan on hitting 500' weds. at lakeland dragstrip....all or nothing

ps-DARIUS imagine the whole tail cowl ordeal if u had dlish thick calves!
