Crashes????

Im planning on getting a bike in the spring maybe a 929. I've ridden dirt and was wondering what has everyone experienced the beggining of their riding lives? Crashes? Bad?? How are other drivers?? What to look out for?? anything that would be helpful for a begginer.

When I first got on the road I was 12 maybe I was dumb, but the second time I rode a big bike I dumped it making a sharp left and my dumbass didn't know to countersteer and instead turned the handlebars left (on a sportbike lol) expecting that it would turn but it wasn't enough so I proceeded to hit the curb and burnt my ankle on the engine cover. Mind you before this I had rode dirt bikes, mopeds, scooters and little teeny-weeny(50-250cc) bikes before this so I did have a basic idea. What I am trying to get at is you'll make beginner mistakes that the best way to get over is experience, and if you rode a dirt bike (at least a 250) you'll notice that there isn't much difference, you just learn to deal with the fact that nobody ever sees you and to look as far ahead as possible.

I'd say take the MSF too, you actually do learn there, and to be safe, make sure you are comfortable on your bike before stunting it

well since i got a bike I have probably almost killed myself a dozen time's, seen people eat it right in front of me on the twisties, lost a few friends, got 1 ticket then I learned, ran from the cops more times than I can count, had dreams they were chasing me all the time. it's not worth it. The streets to me is something that I'm glad I grew out of quickly before I killed myself. I still ride the streets but not everyday like I was before, doing wheelies down the freeway, passing cars in the shoulder, going between cars at 80mph in a wheelie, that's the **** that will get you wiped out. Some people get a bike and are dead within a year I have seen it happen many times. Be Safe.

Yep! My 1 year and 1 months experience of Soutern Cali got me to stop stunting on public roads. I've seen so many bad crashes and people dying that it just really got me and made me relize it is NOT worth it going out there on public roads, endangering others. I think we've all done it and can look back and say that we were pretty stupid for some of the stuff we did.

One thing about Cali and the whole US is that too young and dumb "riders" are allowed to purchase any bike from the age of 16. I am glad I did not get an 02 R1 or any other liter bike for a first bike. They just don't forgive as much as a small bike can (more about you being able to control the weight of the bike easier, hence pushing / pulling whatnot, the bike out of a slapper, going wide.. etc). I started on a 250cc, 400cc, 650cc, 900cc, 1000cc. I've crashed countless number of times, on the freeway and in the twisties.. I've been lucky. I've gone right through guard railes, hit a light post.

I am now only stunting off public roads and gonna start roadracing next year to be sure that when I go off the road, I am will do it without the fear of hitting something as I am flying/tumbling etc.

So, RIDE WITHIN YOUR LIMITS. Don't try to catch up to other more experienced riders (I have had that happened to me and he was in the hospital 3 months, he was VERY close to dying). Don't care if you get left behind, you'll atleast survive and can tell the ***** up front to slow down for the newbies in the back.

damn, I'm preaching.

For sure. Only time we ride in town is when we go and grap something to eat. Then we truck our bikes out to a dragstrip or a abandoned road. Riding in town is not as fun anymore because of all of the dangers and police chases. Usually someone rips a wheelie on the highway and cops give chase (KRIS). Its all for fun though. I just like practicing stunting with my friends. Be safe out there.

almost always you're going to crash learning slow stuff....

the object behind having less crashes is don't push too hard and don't try to learn faster than you can. i pushed too hard, crashed a lot.

now i learned to take my time, might take me a whlie to learn a trick, but i don't crash very often anymore. i'm in no hurry so why not save the pain of crashing.
