Highway Standup
How would you guys go about practiciing highway standups. I have never rod a wheelie before. Would you get on the freeway in second and try or would you try to do it in first gear on a side street to get comfortable first. Please let me know exactly how you learned highway standup at the balance point.
How long did it take you to find the b.p and be confident enough to pull it without hesitation. I know everyone learns at a different pace but I am just asking your experience thanx alot

well, I would first get used to the front wheelie being off the ground before jumping into traffic. Once you get that, then try some 2nd gear standups away from traffic again...then venture out. IMO, balance point was first found by accident...its a feeling of being weightless...you will have to whip your *** when you first hit it!
Then it will be like 2nd nature. have fun. it took me 6 months before I could hit BP consistenly...practice practice practice is the key.

if you want to learn standups in general, which you can then apply to the freeway I'd suggest getting out in an industrial area after hours/weekends and pics a long wide straight road to practice.
personally I'd rather see you learn slow wheelies w/ throttle and brake control before you go wild on the freeway. it hurts less to fall at 20 than it does 80
give it time. take it slow...and practice w/ all your gear on.

if you wanna do highway wheelies. you have to start some place safe cause if you fall in traffic your @#$%ed. just start slow learning first gear wheelies away from trafic then after your comfortable then start trying them on the highway. getting to the bp is not big deal its keeping it there and not gaining speed that will take the time to learn. when the bike goes weightless you there
sorry bout the long post

Do not hit the freeway tell you are completely comfortable at bp. you will want to be able to control your speed and change lanes.
i like using a higher gear so the throttle isn't as touchy and it helps to keep the rpm down. i like using 3rd gear for freeway wheelies.

What everybody else said and first buy the bike. Then learn to ride it. You have not even gotten the basics down. You are jumping to get ready to do something you are not really ready for....
Don't die trying to do something you really have no business. Just learn to corner, learn to, well, ride proficient;y and get everything down 100%. I don't know if you are old enough how to drive or have even driven yet but its just like when you drove a car for the first time. You had to think about not hitting the gas or brake to hard, or looking at the gear shifter to see what gear you are in whether it be rev or low gear or?????
After a while you don't even think about that stuff anymore. You just get in, put the key in and drive. Learnig a stick shift was even more wild. Esp. when you are on that hill for the first few times...
You see most of us that really ride here, and not casual ride, don't think about the little things anymore. Its more of listening to the bike and learning its behavior based on experience.
When you get your bike to be to urgent to stunt like a pro. These guys have many 100's of hours under their belt. Your gonna have to do like everyone does if they want to learn right, and that is to practice, practice, practice....
