Steel subframe?

Steel subframe?
I am going to make a streel subframe for my gixxer this winter, any comments or suggestions.
I know I need to put super weak bolts in were it bolts to the frame, is there any one that has had trouble with a steel subframe?

one of my boys did that to his bike and it added a ton of weight to the bike and it was a gsxr......i would not recommend it.....are you braking your subframe a lot? if you are i still would not recommend that you do it.

i would think that would add a lot of weight to the bike and wouldnt really do anything good for the bike excpet break subframe mounts i didnt do it but i know it would add quite a good bit of weight

I made a steel subframe for my gsxr 750, it works well but it very heavy, and you have to reinforce your frame. If I had the stock sub I would get it reinforced and run it. It turned out to be more than a pain in the ***. Bar tricks are gettin old anyway. But if your set on havin a steel sub I can give you some tips on makin one. and if you want to get rid of your stock sub send me a PM.

At some point something breaks, so you gotta have a weak link.
At this point that weak point is your frame. I clamp my 12 bar
on with stainless hose clamps(many clamps) and if anything breaks it's them. Thats my take on it anyway

Every one thinks the frame tabs will break, the suzuki tabs are small on the frame. So it sounds like a reinforced stock one is the way to go

Damn, that's nice! I've broke a couple of subframes and one of each of the mounts. Now my frame is gusseted on the lower mounts and the uppers have 1/8th in plate welded over them. My subframe is also welded everywhere and has plates and braces welded in. Strong as hell now but something still has to give if you hit it too hard. In my opinion this is the only bad thing about the gixxer lineup.
Ya I had pieces of aluminum welded on the sides of the frame and cant tell, and Ive hit f****ng hard and never had any real problems, my only real complaint is its HEAVy like a hundred pounds heavy. here is a pic of the side of my frame that is welded.
Ive had the steel sub for over six months and never broke anything on it or the frame(after the frame was welded)
