Gearing question - front sprocket Vs Rear sprocket

K. here's the question. when gearing my 929 - I did a +20 rear sprocket. My boy has one that is -1 + 17 - so instead of buying 2 sprockets I just bought the mega pan for the back.

Someone was telling me you get more engine brake off having a smaller front sprocket.

But, isn't it just the ratio of the sprocket's to each other? Im all confused.

That's a good question, but I think either way the engine is going to be running higher rpm's etc... but the smaller front increases wear and tear on the chain from what I've heard.....nice chain, can see the 6 links you've added

shouldn't make a difference in angine braking, like MikeM its all about the ratio.

It doesn't make a difference which way its in there. I did the same thing on my gsxr, after spending 45 minutes digging all the assfault out of the threads to get the nut off. If its on the other side the can is going to keep it off the ground, should your bike somehow end up in the non-factory specified position.

Engine braking depends on the ratio not which sprocket is which. 20 up is nice isn't it?

I got a question, what applications are the sprockets you guys use? I looked in the catalogues and there aren't any +20 sprockets for 2003 GSXR 600s... how do you guys do it?

So if I go -1 +10 on my 929, I don't need to buy a new chain? Just get links?
Can I get them from Sprocket Specialists also?
I looked on that website and only saw stuff that applied to dirtbikes...where is the street bike stuff?
Also, the axle on the 929 goes in from left to right so that axle is correct in the pic.
Thanks for everyones input...
