My rear brake works but I don't use it for standups and since I can't do slow **** so I don't use it at all. Unless you are doing 6th gear standups your bike should have enough compression braking to bring the front down if needed.

always keep that brake covered for the just in case. High RPM's can bring you back down - but the confidence of knowing you can mash the brake is good.

I cover the back brake when I'm doing long sitdowns, but nah I really don't need it for anything. I've tried a few times riding it instead of adjusting the throttle and for the most part it'll get you a long wheel but you'll burn up the pad fast.

As far as needing it for emergencies, the biggest need would probably be if you miss the shift from first to second, or if the bike pops out of gear between 1st and 2nd, and you are past the balance point, I've had it fall out of gear before, but I've always been on the good side of the balance point when it happened, and just had to deal with the front slammin down.

I don't like to ride if either of my brakes are failing me, bad karma...

I dont care how good you are, if you ride without safety equip of any kind you are a dumb ***. Be smart and run a safe bike, there is no need to take chances with an already dangerous sport.

I love how people are so dependent on the rear brake that they wont even do highway wheelies without it
