who insures their bikes?
every state is diffrent, here in Minnesota you have to have a minimum of liability! and if you have a loan, full coverage (unless the loan in unsecured, some banks will, some won't). i keep liab. and comp(theft). it's cheap as hell for me, only $200 for a full year for both my gixxer and f4i.
see im in colorado so i guess ill have to check. im gonna end up taking out roughly a 3k loan and get a **** box bike. im 19 have the 13 point ticket (lawyer working on that) and the 4. i also wrecked my tlr and totaled it. hopefully ill still have a drivers license in a couple months but then im gonna get a bike and i know insurance is gonna be insane. if i didnt report my bike to insurance i could have been back on the road in a week for under 700 bucks but i figured i would report it then get a 929 cause thats what i really want but now i just seem to be getting raped by everyone. i must have really pissed someone upstairs off
damn i love FL... no insurance on either of my bikes.. but my roomie trashed one and now im stuck with fixin it... Dlish its gona be tight... ur gona be like ahhh its not that cold and im gona be like
Let's take it to the next level. How many of you have full coverage insurance on your bikes, stunted them to within an inch of their existence, then claimed that you wrecked and got paid for it? You know, "drop" your bike on the road and get a police report and call your insurance company. They come out, total the bike, then cut you a check. You could even drag the bike down the road behind a truck. Broken subframe or peg mount is all it takes for an insurance company to "total" a bike. Then you're shopping for your new bike. Don't same some of you haven't done it. I'm not considering it, but have plenty of friends who I wonder about sometimes when they "wreck" and get a new bike out of the deal. What are the pros and cons of this situation?
In the short term it may be cool to trash yur bike and get a new one but your ins. rates will go up then you won't be able to get insurance. I have liability on my bikes b/c if I hit someone or something then I want to be covered. I only buy bikes I can pay cash for. (rebuilt/ salvage title). If you are going to seriously stunt a bike then you shouldn't be making payments on it. By no means am I a wealthy man but a little sacrifice, discipline, and research and you have a nice bike for a few thousand.
Even if insurance isn't required in florida. Almost all bike loans are "secured" loans useing the bike as collateral. In those instances, I'm not sure any bank would not want insurance on their collateral.
There is no way progressive will give cheap insurance for someone with that many points on a bike and has a crashed a bike and claimed it. You're be LUCKY to even find someone who WILL insure you for less than 5g a year.
Unless you're only on closed course, its a big risk not to atleast have liability... you never plan on an accident.
I have full coverage, because of a loan, but when its paid off I'll drop to liability and comp. Skip collision, claiming a bike will just increase your rates a ridiculous amount. In the case that it happens a second time, good luck finding insurance. I'll always have theft/fire though, just because even with a garage... it can always happen.
