Wheelies: Whats the difference?

1. Stand up in second and push down on the handlebars to compress the front spring and throttle it up

2. Stand up in second and jump hard on the footpegs and throttle it up

Whats the difference? I've ridden with guys who do both.

Also I ride an Yamaha FZ1, I only seem to be able to do 1st gear sitting down power wheelies. I've practiced standup ones in second, but I think because of where the pegs are positioned when I stand up my weight actually holds the bike down. I can't get a good push on the handlebars to compress the forks unless I stand up either.

Any advice for me? An FZ1 is a naked version of an R1 for all you stunters who don't know, has a more cruising riding position.

Anyways I'm going to get a real sportbike this winter. I think thats my best solution. I need to shed the extra 75lbs of the FZ1 and a sportbike should have a better riding position for stunting.

My dad has an FZ1 and it has more than enough power 2 do 2nd gear stand ups, but u have 2 clutch it up 2 get it goin pretty good.
and u can also do stand ups with the stock bars.He has put on the rizoma clip ons and i like that riding position better than the stock set up. But gixxers and hondas are the bad boyz of stuntin!

I'll give it a try clutching it. So what ride it up to about 5000 rpms in second pull in the clutch and rev it to 8000 or so?

CRAZY DAN is a decent person
there is no need to pay attention to your tach when doing wheelies! This is how people loop them out! Practice roling the throttle on and dropping the clutch a little bit at a time. The first few times you try this your front tire may not even come off the ground. But keep doing it until you reach a point where once you drop the clutch your front tire pops up close to the balance point. When you get it there, its all about balance with throttle, and brake control!

If you are trying to watch the tach you are gonna loop. It's by ear and what feels good. Roll on, then off and clutch at the same time, and it will come up fast and quick, then its all brake and throttle.

Bouncing the forks with your arms is wrong.....bouncing the whole suspension with legs is right way.

Thanks for the Feedback.

Is it necessary to go on the throttle and then off the throttle, bounce and back on the throttle hard hard at the same time.

or

just bounce and on the throttle hard, don't worry about timing the on and off the throttle.

I'm getting my bike to come up easily about 1-2 feet but can't keep it going.
